About our Percussion Section:
The North Garland High School Percussion
Section is an important part of the NGHS Raider Band in all of it's performances.
The percussion section is made
up of:
approximately 18-20 musicians from grades
9-12 who attend the MST Magnet School for the Garland ISD.
a large homogenous percussion section
in the fall which is made up of the Battery, and the front ensemble, known
as the Pit.
three separate groups in the spring
(one for each concert band) in addition to three multiple percussion ensembles.
students who take pride in their band,
their school, and themselves.
a Steel Drum Ensemble as well as a traditional
Percussion Ensemble.
The Percussion Section performs with
the band at:
all football games, pep rallies, and
the Garland Labor Day Parade.
two marching band contests/competitions.
indoor concerts with three concert bands
such as the Winter Concert, Potato Supper Fund Raiser, Spring Concert,
and commencement ceremonies at graduation.
Texas State UIL Concert Contests, and
Marching Contests.

About our Percussion Staff:
Ellen G. LeDoux
is the second assistant of bands, and head of percussion studies at NGHS.
She holds a Bachelor's degree in music
performance from the University of Southern Mississippi, where she studied
extensively with Dr. John Wooton. Her training at U.S.M. included traditional
percussion studies, as well as ethnic percussion such as their Steel Drum
Band. She also holds a Master's degree in Education from William Carey
College. While getting her degrees, she has gathered many musical awards
such as being a two time winner of the John Philip Sousa award, Mississippi
Chapter of the Percussive Arts Society Outstanding Soloist on the Marimba(1995),
and Outstanding Musician in the USM percussion department. Mrs. LeDoux
is in her seventh year of teaching in public schools. Five were in Ocean
Springs, Mississippi and this is her second year at North Garland.
In her playing career she has performed
as percussionists for the Springfield (MO) Symphony, Biloxi (MS) Symphony,
Gulf Coast Wind Symphony, USM Symphony, Meridian (MS) Symphony, and with
the Mobile (AL) Symphony. She has performed in various stage orchestras
for Joan Rivers, Don Rickles, Dino Kartsonakis, Bobby Vinton, and Joe Martino.
She presently performs weekly in the Dallas area with the orchestra for
the Cathedral of Hope.
Nelson LeDoux
is the adjunct percussion enrichment teacher, and arranger for the Raider
Band.
He hold's a Bachelor's Degree in Music
Education from the University of Southern Mississippi. There is where he
studied under Dr. Sherman Hong's instruction, as well as Dr. John Wooton.
Mr. LeDoux has been teaching in the classroom for nine years as a band
director. Three with Lumberton Schools in Lumberton, Mississippi and six
in the Pascagoula Municipal Separate School District as assistant to Jerry
Ball.
In his band career Mr. LeDoux has
distinguished himself by performing with two national finalist drumlines
in the Percussive Arts Society Collegiate Competition with McNeese State
University. He has also been a DCI
finalist with the SkyRyders Drum and Bugle Corps as a snare drummer placing
in the top 12 in international finals competition.
As a percussion instructor, Mr. LeDoux
has had experience teaching drum sections in Florida, Alabama, Mississippi,
Louisiana, and Texas. While in Mississippi he led Pascagoula's High School
percussion section to 3rd Place in the Southeast Region in the WGI
scholastic division. Many of his private lessons students have distinguished
themselves in Region, and All State Band auditions in their respective
states, as well as one of his students who placed second in the Percussive
Arts Society Solo Snare Drum competition. (National Collegiate Division)
