Dorothy, age 75, passed away at home on Friday, April 27, 2001.  She was preceded in death by her husband, William, and daughter, Marie.  She is mother of Mike, Ted, Don, Martha, Margaret, Ron, and mother-in-law to Sue, Noreen, Janice, Ben, Steve, David, and Veronica.  She is grandmother of William, Amy, Melissa, Jessica, Nicolas, Derek, Brandon, Robert, Rachel, Angela, and Henry.

Dot, one of 15 children of Leslie and Cecilia McKinnon, a pioneer Concord family is survived by her brothers and sisters, Bob, Ray, Ted, Nancy, Claire, Lou, Jayne, and Don.  She was preceded in death by Richard, Tom, Jack, Bill, Jim, and Margaret.

Aside from being a dedicated mother, grandmother, and friend, Dorothy touched the lives of many in her 33 years of service to young students at Mount Diablo, Ygnacio Valley, and Northgate high schools. 

Dot fulfilled her life as matriarch of her family.  Her home was always open to her family.  Their memories of the holidays and special occasions are filled with warmth, laughter, and unity.  In recent years she enjoyed world wide travels with family and close friends, traveling to Guatemala, Italy, Ireland, Greece, Egypt, and Malaysia.  Dorothy was diagnosed with cancer April 3, 2001.  Her positive outlook on life was reflected in how she approached her illness.  She was surrounded by family and friends during her last days.  She continued to give of herself selflessly, and it was an honor to be in her presence during this special time.  She died at home the morning of April 27, peacefully with her family at her side.  All who were touched by Dot have become stronger. 

She will be laid to rest in Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Lafayette.
