Mother

Mother. She had almost forgotten what that word sounded like. To say it out loud was almost a crime, for it brought back all those painfully wonderful memories. It was not too many years back and she still had a mother. A mother who played tag with her and her sister, sang songs to lull them to sleep, and comforted them when they were hurt. But she was taken away from her, just like that. If its for the good of Antar, shed heard her aunt say to the enemy then Ill do it. Theyll be here by the next moon fall. She couldnt believe what she was hearing, but it was true. That very evening, she saw her mother leave, along with her father, uncle Rath, and aunt Vilandra. Aunt Vilandra. How she hated her aunt. She hated the name, Vilandra. She despised her own name, for she had been named after her aunt with honor by her father. But it was no honor for her. That betrayer who took away her mother. She couldnt believe it when she saw the scientists creating a pod for her aunt. She didnt deserve a second chance! All she would do is betray them again. But maybe she could help the process of the pods. If she could just figure out a way for her aunt to never remember her past life, then she wouldnt remember her love and betray them again. So she asked her dear friend and guardian who was a scientist to make the pods forget their past. It worked. Now she waited, waited for the essences to develop into humans, and then hatch. She waited for the humans to grow. Once they reached their maturity level, she got on her spacecraft and headed for Earth. She was going to see her mother again.

Max knocked on the door and then silently walked in. No one was in the living room or kitchen. So he walked into her bedroom. There she lay, still asleep. Her head was drenched in sweat and she was twisting and turning, clenching her stomach, which was a bit swollen. Max walked over to her bed and kneeled down beside her. He reached out his hand and softly stroked her hair. She was burning up! He quickly got up to get some cold towels. When he got back, she was still sleeping fitfully. But when he touched her to heal her as best he could, she woke up with a startle.

Shhh. Its okay. Youre sick. Im gonna take care of you. He cooed her. She smiled back thankfully.

Thanks Max. Whwheres Jim and Kyle? She asked, looking around.

I dont know. Probably out somewhere. Dont worry, Im sure theyll be back soon. Max put a cold, damp cloth on her forehead, which immediately brought comfort to her. She sighed, letting some tension out. Suddenly she let out a cry of agon and clenched her stomach.

Whats wrong? Max asked hurriedly.

I think its the baby. Hes sick. Tess replied in a whisper, afraid that if she talked any louder, she would start to scream. Max gently put his hand on her stomach and concentrated on what was inside. He could see his baby, he was suffocating, struggling to breathe. Max suddenly lunged back, gasping for air. Max! Are you okay? Tess squeaked.

Hes suffocating. He cant breathe in this atmosphere. Hes dying. Max gasped as he spoke. Tess face turned from concerned to fear. Her face quenched at the pain and she lay in a fetus position.

Shed been here a year and still hadnt found them yet. But she was getting close, real close. She just had this gut feeling that she knew where one of them was. She couldnt believe herself. She walked up to the girl as innocently as possible.

Excuse me. Could you show me the way to the lunch hall? She asked politely. The girl looked at her with tired eyes and smiled.

Sure. I was just going there my self. Come on. The girl responded.

Thanks. She said. So whats your name?

Oh, Im Isabel Evans. Whats yours? The girl answered.

My name is Aubrie.  Im new, so I dont really know my way around yet. She explained.

That wont be a problem. I can show you the grounds if you want. Isabel offered.

Sure. Id like that. Aubrie accepted.

~*~ After school at Isabels house (Aubries POV) ~*~

Im in her room now, waiting for her to come back from the bathroom. Isabel invited me to her house after school and I accepted, hoping shed finally be the one. Ive been searching for 2 years and every single girl Ive interrogated turned out to be just some freaky perfectionist. But this one, this ones different. I look into her eyes and I see someone else. An older person, more mature woman than just Isabel Evans. If she is one of the aliens, I still have to figure out which one. For all I know, she could be my mother. But I cant come to conclusions. I need to get through her first, see if she IS alien. She comes back into the room, spotlessly clean. She reminds me so much of Aunt Vilondra, more so than mother. Im thinking maybe she IS Vilandra. Oh please dont be! I want to see mom before I see aunt Lonnie. She sits down on the bed next to me.

So Isabel, youre an orphan right? I mean, you were adopted? I ask, trying not to sound to snobby.

Yeah, me and my brother were adopted when we were 6 years old. She answers, nodding her head friendly.

Did you ever find out what happened to your parents? I question her without trying to sound like an interrogator.

Uh, well, they died when we were real little. So I dont really remember them. What about you? I hear you only live with your dad. She responds. I can feel that she doesnt really want to talk about herself.
