Although these pictures are completely different upon first glance, there are some striking similarities between them. The central theme of both pictures shows that some people believed that witchcraft was the reason for the plague. Both pictures show evil looking women to be the cause of the terror that is going on around them. In the picture on the left, the plague is depicted as a huge demonic creature, which has woman-like features. The picture on the right depicts women riding around in the sky, on clouds. The entire land below the unholy women is striken with the plague. As you can see, the "Wizard of Oz" idea of witches that we have today is not quite the same as the idea of witches during the time of the Plague.
