By the end of Kindergarten, students will be able to know and do the following:


·  Participate in and explore a wide variety of art activities with emphasis placed on developmental skills

·  Recognize and name primary, secondary, and other common colors (in Spanish and English)

·  Perform basic gross-motor skills such as coloring open spaces (larger pictures or drawings such as backgrounds or large shapes).

·  Perform basic fine-motor skills such as coloring closed spaces (smaller detailed pictures or drawings such as foreground objects or small shapes).

·  Use various forms of media (crayons, paint, colored pencils, tissue paper, glue, etc.)

·  Develop and present creative colorful artwork

·  Describe artwork using art vocabulary (in Spanish and English)

·  Respect the abilities of self and others

·  Clean up, maintain, and be responsible for art supplies and materials


 

PREPARATORY

 

Preparatory students will develop basic artistic skills and learn to create and appreciate various forms of art lessons.

By the end of Preparatory, students will be able to know and do the following:

 

·  Participate in and explore a wide variety of art activities with emphasis placed on developmental skills

·  Recognize and name all regular colors and pastel colors (in Spanish and English)

·  Develop basic gross-motor skills such as coloring open spaces (larger pictures or drawings such as backgrounds or large shapes).

·  Develop basic fine-motor skills such as coloring closed spaces (smaller detailed pictures or drawings such as foreground objects or small shapes).

·  Use various forms of media (crayons, paint, colored pencils, tissue paper, glue, etc.)

·  Recognize design elements (space, color, texture, size, etc.)

·  Develop and present creative artwork

·  Describe artwork using art vocabulary (in Spanish and English)

·  Verbally express personal experiences in artwork (in Spanish and English)

·  Verbally identify visual preference by describing art (in Spanish and English)

·  Distinguish between art objects and objects in everyday life

·  Respect the abilities of self and others

·  Clean up, maintain, and be responsible for art supplies and materials


 

GRADE 1

 

First grade students learn to appreciate various art forms. They identify and properly use art education tools and media while understanding the various forms of art.

By the end of Grade 1, students will be able to know and do the following:

 

·  Participate in and explore a wide variety of art activities with emphasis placed on developmental skills

·  Recognize and name all colors (in Spanish and English)

·  Develop gross-motor skills such as coloring open spaces (larger pictures or drawings such as backgrounds or large shapes) and develop fine-motor skills such as coloring closed spaces (smaller detailed pictures or drawings such as foreground objects or small shapes).

·  Describe expressive qualities in nature/art (verbally and in writing in Spanish and in English)

GRADE 2

 

Second grade students demonstrate an appreciation for art and its various forms from diverse regions and cultures.

 

By the end of Grade 2, students will be able to know and do the following:

 

·  Participate in and explore a wide variety of art activities from diverse regions and cultures with continued emphasis placed on developmental skills

·  Improve gross-motor skills such as coloring open spaces (larger pictures or drawings such as backgrounds or large shapes) and improve fine-motor skills such as coloring closed spaces (smaller detailed pictures or drawings such as foreground objects or small shapes).

·  Use various forms of media (crayons, paint, colored pencils, tissue paper, glue, etc.)

·  Recognize design elements (space, color, texture, size, etc.)

·  Develop and present creative artwork

·  Describe artwork and express personal experiences (in English)

·  Identify visual preference by describing art (verbally and in writing in English)

·  Describe visual/tactile elements in art (verbally and in writing in English)

·  Describe expressive qualities in nature/art (verbally and in writing in English)

·  Describe differences in art/environment (verbally and in writing in English)

·  Recognize the role of artists in the community

·  Identify themes in selected works of art from various cultures

·  Respect the abilities of self and others

·  Clean up, maintain, organize, and be responsible for art supplies and materials

 


 

GRADE 3

 

Third grade students demonstrate an appreciation for art and its various forms from throughout the world.  Students begin to recognize their interests, abilities, and values in regard to art education.

By the end of Grade 3, students will be able to know and do the following:

 

·  Participate in and explore a wide variety of art activities from throughout the world with an emphasis towards art appreciation.

·  Demonstrate proficiency in gross-motor and fine-motor skills.

·  Use various forms of media (crayons, paint, colored pencils, tissue paper, glue, etc.)

·  Recognize design elements (space, color, texture, size, etc.)

·  Develop/exhibit artwork that reflects personal experience

·  Identify visual preference by describing art (verbally and in writing in English)

·  Describe visual/tactile elements in art (verbally and in writing in English)

·  Describe expressive qualities in nature/art (verbally and in writing in English)

·  Describe differences in art/environment (verbally and in writing in English)

·  Select and use symbols or subject matter to convey meaning in art production (verbally and in writing in English)

·  Describe how organization of elements/principals of design portray feelings (verbally and in writing in English)

·  Recognize varying cultural themes (verbally and in writing in English)

·  Recognize the role of artists in the country

·  Identify themes in selected works of art from throughout the world

·  Identify artwork/styles belonging to particular artist, times, and places.

·  Respect the abilities of self and others

·  Maintain, organize, and be responsible for art supplies and materials


 

GRADE 4

Fourth grade students demonstrate an appreciation for art and its various forms from throughout the world.  Students develop their interests, abilities, and values in art education and recognize visual arts career opportunities.

By the end of Grade 4, students will be able to know and do the following:

·  Participate in and explore a wide variety of art activities from throughout the world with an emphasis towards art appreciation.

·  Demonstrate proficiency in gross-motor and fine-motor skills.

·  Describe differences in art/environment (writing in English)

·  Describe how organization of elements/principals of design portray feelings (writing in English)

·  Recognize varying cultural themes (writing in English)

·  Recognize the role of artists in the world

·  Recognize visual arts career opportunities

GRADE 5

 

Fifth grade students demonstrate an appreciation for art and its various forms from throughout the world and from different historical eras.  Students develop their interests, abilities, and values in art education and recognize visual arts career opportunities.


By the end of Grade 5, students will be able to know and do the following:

 

·  Participate in and explore a wide variety of art activities from throughout the world with an emphasis towards different eras and time periods.

·  Demonstrate proficiency in gross-motor and fine-motor skills.

·  Use various forms of media (crayons, paint, colored pencils, tissue paper, glue, etc.)

·  Develop/exhibit artwork that reflects personal experience

·  Compare and contrast visual preference by describing art (writing in English)

·  Compare and contrast visual/tactile elements in art (writing in English)

·  Compare and contrast expressive qualities in nature/art (writing in English)

·  Compare and contrast differences in art/environment (writing in English)

·  Compare and contrast objects and works of art using art vocabulary (writing in English)

·  Select and use symbols or subject matter to convey meaning in art production (writing in English)
