The evening before Catherine's wedding, she and Grissom have a talk.

His clock struck midnight. Ever since the day she announced she was getting married he hadn't been able to sleep. Couldn't she see that the guy wasn't worthy of her? He paced back and forth in front of the phone. Now was probably the absolutely wrong time to call her. But he needed to hear her voice one more time. He picked up the phone and dialed the all too familiar number.

She looked at her wedding dress. Her veil was in the bathroom getting steamed every day when she took a shower. She never thought she could feel this way again. When she had married Eddie she was so happy. Finally someone loved her. At least that's what she thought then. She never thought she would feel the same as she did that day. And she was right. The night before her wedding and she wasn't as happy as she had been on that day so many years ago; she was happier. Lindsey had accused her of behaving like a child even.

There was only one thing she worried about. Grissom. He kept giving her these looks while they worked after she announced she was getting married. The phone rang, interrupting her thoughts.

"Hello."

"Are you going to go through with it?"

"And hello to you too, Gris."

"I'm sorry. How are you doing, Catherine?"

"Nervous and happy. You know you're late?"

"I'm not late. I wasn't going to call, but the phone was suddenly in my hand and I dialed subconsciously."

"Grissom, what are you trying to say?"

"I'm going to miss you."

"I'm not going anywhere. I'll be back after a week. The lab had better still be standing there when I return."

"Don't you ever wonder about what might have been?"

"No. Never look back."

"Yeah."

"You still haven't told me why you called."

"I wanted to tell you that I love you." The words were out of his mouth before he could stop them.

"I know. I love you too, but I'm in love with the G-man."

"No looking back, eh?"

"Yeah." She played with the cord on the telephone. She knew he would call and try to talk her out of getting married. But there were times when you had to follow your heart without question. She knew that he couldn't just accept that.

The day of the wedding

They had talked all evening. He just wanted to hear her voice for one last time. He sat on his bed half dressed wondering if he was doing the right thing. He loved her, had told her that he loved her, and still she was getting married. He couldn't change her mind. He stood up and gathered his wallet and tie before buttoning his shirt. Today was going to be the longest day of his life.

The church buzzed with excitement. The groomsmen and bridesmaids were going to and fro, carrying messages between the bride and groom, checking for the umpteenth time that the flowers and candles were in order and that the guests had arrived.

The church hushed as the music began. It was so fitting for the two stars of the wedding. He turned to see Lindsey dropping flower petals in front of her. Then he saw her. He had dreamed of the time he would see her in her wedding gown, but those dreams paled when faced with the reality. She looked radiant. He could see her happiness dance in her eyes even beneath the veil.

The vows were said and they pledged to love one another for eternity, not just until death do us part. They turned and were pronounced married before the eyes of God and the State of Nevada.

As they walked down the isle Catherine leaned over to her new husband, "So, G-man, do you still think this was a bad idea?"

Gil Grissom looked at his new wife and smiled fully, "No, I think it's about time we woke up to what was in front of us for so long."
