RADIANT SILVERGUN

Although well known for their platform titles, Treasure released an awesome arcade shoot’em up back in 1998 on the sega ST-V arcade board in Japan.

A month later it was released on the Sega Saturn again in Japan. Radiant Silvergun is the title of this game. It is so amazing it blows away its rivals and unless you own a modified multi region Saturn (or even a Japanese one) not to mention a lot of money for this game you won’t get the chance to play it at all! and that's a real shame.

This game requires more strategy and more action than any other shoot’ em up out there. Casual gamer’s beware this game is strictly for the hard-core player as this game is a major skill test!

Towards the future

Although in Japanese the game’s storyline roughly translates as this: 9 July 2520, the earth defense force discovers a strange diamond shape device. Along with the object, there is also the remnants of a what appears to be a robot.

On 14 July, the mysterious device detonates while being probed starting a chain reaction that destroys the entire planet.

The only survivors were 4 people and a robot aboard the battleship "Tetra" and a handful of people base at the earth’s defense Tower (who don’t last long).

They were the ‘captain’ who commands the Tetra battleship, robonoid ID00104 (nicknamed Creator), Baster, Reana (also spelt Leana), and Guy (also spelt as Gai). These last three are pilots for the fighter-ships "Silvergun".

The Silvergun pilots travel back in time to stop the devastation! Visually the is a fantastic mix of 2D and 3D power which at that time seemed only possible on the Saturn and a lot of Saturn owners can testify that although the 3D capabilities were not as powerful as the Playstation, it is an incredible 2D powerhouse.

But when you play this game you won’t have a chance to admire the art work as the screens are often filled with enemy bullets everywhere!

The music is gorgeous too. It sounds like some kind of futuristic space-opera and really makes your heart beat faster when you play this game! its really dramatic too!

There is a lot of spoken dialogue in Saturn game mode. Very strange for a shoot’ em up! If you are a true hard-core gamer chances are you will love this!

But be warned you need to be wide awake when playing this! The sheer amount of things moving on screen will blow you away!!
