Oh My Goddess

Kosuke Fujishima's romantic fantasy of a college boy who calls for take out and gets a live-in Goddess instead has been one of the most popular manga stories in both Japan and the Western world before later when it was transformed into anime .

"Ah! Megamisama" is the Japanese name for the manga and anime, it's translated as "Ah! My Goddess", but Animeigo's "Oh My Goddess!" was chosen for the western release while Pioneer has chosen the "Ah! My Goddess" title for the movie release.

The OVA's were made sometime in 1992, but still look good despite their age. There are five episodes released by AnimEigo on two DVDs. The three episodes on the first OAV DVD volume introduces us to the main characters. "Moonlight and Cherry Blossoms" explains the story of Keiichi Morisato desperately dialing up for takeaway (while given the job to answer the telephone in the men's college dormitory) and accidentally dials up the goddess helpline only to have a Belldandy appearing from a mirror!!!!!!!!

The story is really about boy meets special someone. In this case it's boy meets Goddess! Poor Keiichi has to deal with becoming homeless, meeting Belldandy's sisters, Urd and then Skuld, dealing with love conflicts to confronting some 'ultimate force'!!!!

No one said love would be an easy path!

Duration: 5 OVA's. Year of production: 1992

Do also check out the movie, its very well animated although personally I prefer the original OVA's.

An old pic on the left. It was drawn sometime in 1994 but was coloured in, in early 2003. I was'nt happy with the water colours... oh well : (

The latest pic is at the top done in a slight super deformed style using the PC to colour it in.

Release in the Western world: Animeigo/MVM
