Add another episode to Gatsby's memoir recalling how he fell in love with Daisy and how important she was to him and what she represented. This memoir was prompted by the melancholy and uncertainty he felt after his confrontal with Tom on a hot summer day in New York.
I fell in love with Daisy the second I saw her. She was the most beautiful woman I ever saw. When is stepped into town to see who she was, she captured my heart. I had no money at the time, but I was trying hard to make it. Once I knew that without money, we could not be happy. So I tried harder. She is really important to me. After the way Tom called me a bootlegger. How dare he annoy Daisy like that! It was his fault that Daisy was distraught and ran over Myrtle Wilson. Even thought it was her that ran her over, I will take the blame for it. Since Tom is going out of his way to ruin my status, I must do something to get him back. Maybe I should have Wolfsheimer do something about it. I don’t understand why Daisy ever loved Tom, and what baffles me is that she still does. What is driving me insane that Tom is nothing is the way it used to be. Why can’t me and Daisy just be together like it was in the past?
