Gatsby’s Memoir

Joseph Ng

What made me become Gatsby? From James Gatz to Gatsby. I’m didn’t really attend Oxford, but to be an Oxford man would impress a lot of people (mainly Daisy). I had to change my background. I am not proud of my life prior to getting rich. It would have had to be a fairy tale dream for a person from North Dakota to get rich. Being rich was my dream. I was ambitious, and I yearned for it. I worked hard to get there, and I am. My life changed when I met Dan Cody. He got rich off the gold rush. He brought me to the West Indies as a personal assistant. I would have inherited $25,000 from my good friend after his death, but his mistress denied me of it. I am as they say the "New Rich". I moved to New York across the bay from Daisy just so that I can be somewhat near her. I look across the bay every night, hoping to get a glimpse of her. It was wonderful when we were together. I don’t know why she left. I believe I can change the past, and that Daisy and I can continue our lives just as it was before.
