Describe Gatsby’s Parties

Joseph Ng

I am a frequent partygoer.  I love the parties in New York, especially the ones thrown by Gatsby.  Although I haven’t really met him, his parties are always great.  The music is nice.  The party is always thrown in his beautiful mansion.  His mansion is so luxurious.  There are a lot of paintings and statues.  He has so much money that he hires a different band every time he has the party.  He parties are thrown frequently, as much as once a week.  People that attend his parties are rich and luxurious people.  Where does he get the money from?  Rumors have it that he is a bootlegger, and that he was a killer.  His house does not portray that… at least I don’t think so.  Are the people that attend the parties really his friends?  Are they close to him?  I know I’m not.  I’ve never even met the man.  The party wasn’t just inside the mansion, it was outside as well, in the garden.  The garden grass was cut so neatly and some were shaped as animals.  People at the party would get drunk.  They didn’t mind embarrassing themselves in front of their peers (the rich people).  Why does he get satisfaction from just throwing parties?  Is he trying to find a mate?  I don’t really care why he’s throwing them, just as long as he keeps doing it.
