�The Brothers Bloom�

The Brothers Bloom made a name for themselves as the world's best con men. Now, the younger (Adrien Brody) is ready to retire on the millions the pair has swindled. But when his brother (Mark Ruffalo) lures him into one last job, he reluctantly agrees. What he hasn't counted on, though, is falling for their mark, an adventure-seeking heiress (Rachel Weisz).


�Earth�
Wednesday OCTOBER 21st at 1pm
The Walt Disney nature documentary �Earth� provides a sweeping 99-minute tour of our home planet's biosphere -- An epic story of adventure, starring some of the most magnificent and courageous creatures alive, are featured.  Beginning in January in the Arctic wilderness, and moving progressively through the four seasons and 12 months comprising a single year, contrasting various geographic regions of the Earth as shot in various seasons. 


�Easy Virtue�
Monday  OCTOBER 26th at 1pm
American divorc�e Larita (Jessica Biel) meets a wealthy young Englishman, John Whittaker (Ben Barnes), in France and impulsively marries him -- but she's not ready to take on her disapproving new in-laws (Colin Firth and Kristin Scott Thomas). When John returns to his parents' country estate with his new bride, the dysfunctional Whittaker family attempts to destroy the spirited American girl. This romantic comedy is based on Noel Coward's play.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THIS MONTH:

New Fairfield Senior Center offers daily lunch program, computer classes, sewing groups, card groups-including
Poker and Bridge, yoga, tai chi, and weight lifting classes, Wii Play system and women�s book groups.  Daily calendars are available at the center.

Mind Sharpener�s Program:
Tuesdays and Fridays at 11am thru October 27th (no Oct 2nd )Mind Sharpeners is part of Mind Aerobics � group cognitive fitness workshops for adults. Participants have either no cognitive impairment or very mild decline without objective deficits. Each program session provides a well-rounded mental workout, and the program is designed to be increasingly challenging, varied and fun.   Inquire about future class registrations for this free program, participation in all 16 sessions is requested for optimum results.

Yoga Classes:
Tuesdays at 1:00 or Fridays 9am
We have openings in our two Yoga Classes led by instructor Karen Gillotti.  Cost is $30 for six sessions. The roots of Yoga can be traced back roughly 5,000 years. The benefits extend far beyond any ordinary workout routine and how it allows a view of one�s life in a more peaceful and proactive state and become less reactive.   

Mah Jongg:
Tuesdays, 2-4pm
Mah Jongg originated in China in the 19th century, and has become one of the most popular games in China and Japan. It is usually played with tiles, though it can also be played with cards of equivalent design. Experienced players welcome and bring a 2009 Mah Jongg Card. Please contact us for more information on how to enroll in a new beginners class coming soon.

Colleen�s Movers and Shapers Class:
Tuesdays 9:15am and Thursdays 9:30am Colleen Krempel�s very popular aerobics class is held in continues sessions at the Senior Center.  Movers and Shapers is a fun way to move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement, and activity for daily living skills.  Signup and fee required for this class.
Tai Chi Classes: Tuesdays at 10:30  We have openings in our Tai Chi Classes led by instructor Dee Calvey.  Cost is $35 for six sessions.  Improved stress reduction, balance, agility for all is the focus of Tai Chi.  Originally developed in China as a form of self-defense, tai chi is a graceful form of exercise that has existed for some 2,000 years. Practiced regularly, tai chi can help you reduce stress and enjoy other health benefits.

Sittercise:  
Thursdays at 10:30am and  1 pm
A new exercise program that runs approximately 45 minutes. Sittercise program is designed for use with all levels of ability including the physically challenged. Stretching, warm-ups, near-aerobic activities, cool-downs, and relaxation- everyone can learn for themselves how they respond to exercise. Discover which muscle groups can be used while seated, and learn movement techniques that contribute to your increased fitness and health.  One time fee of $5 and registration required.

Reiki Program:
Tuesday October 6th and October 13th
15 minute sessions 11-1pmReiki is a laying-on-of-hands form of energy healing that is believed to have existed thousands of years ago. Reiki is provided by a certified practitioner who has been attuned to the Reiki energy. During a Reiki session, the energy is channeled through the practitioner into the client on all levels, physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual to provide stress reduction and relaxation which in turn, leads to wellness.  Signup for a free 15 minute session.

New Fairfield Walkers:
Thursday, OCTOBER 1st 10:00am Our Walking Club members accumulate their individual miles of walking.  Walkers will meet at the Center for a meeting a morning walk locally, weather permitting.  When enough miles are accumulated the group goes out for a destination celebration lunch. Keep logging in those miles!

Breast Cancer Awareness Month-Wreath Hanging:
October 1st at 1pm
Come tie on a pink ribbon in celebration or in honor of someone you know whose life has been touched by Breast Cancer.  Also participate in a unique and vital presentation by Denise Mariconda, R.N., Breast Health Navigator at New Milford Hospital.  Each attendee will receive instruction on the most current proper breast self-exam techniques. Finally we will SPIN the BREAST HEALTH TRIVIA WHEEL for prizes!  So come and have some fun!

Optician:  
Monday, OCTOBER 5th at 11:30-1pm
Yes, there is a licensed optician right in New Fairfield and he will be available at the Senior Center for consultations. Denes Bartha has been a practicing optician for 18 years. Denes will be able to make slight adjustments on your glasses for free and give advice or estimates on other work.

Hot Dog Birthday Bingo: 
Monday, OCTOBER 5th at 1pm
Hot Dog! $5 covers both 1st Bingo card and refreshments including Birthday Cake. Additional cards are available at .50 cents.  Please, adults only.   Come for the fun and celebrate that month�s birthday participants.

Men�s Breakfast Club: 
Tuesday October 6th at 8:30am
Meeting the first Tuesday of each month, enjoy some hot catered breakfast foods and settle in for this months topic- Boat Winterizing and Care with Robert Stryker.  Signup is required.

AARP Safe Driving Course:
It�s always a good time to reevaluate your driving skills and learn a few tips from AARP�s trained volunteers. The 8-hour course costs only $12 AARP member and $14 for non members. Your participation is required on both Tuesdays October 6th and 13th, 9am-1pm but there is no actual driving test. Under state insurance regulations, when you complete the course, you receive a certificate that entitles driver over the age of 60 to a minimum 5 percent discount for at least 2 years on their auto insurance liability. Depending on the company you may save even more.  Must pay for the class with a check at time of registration. 

Sweepstakes Mania:
Wednesday October 7th 2pm
Eleanor Freeman wants to share her prize winning methods for playing online sweepstakes. There are piles of crazy awesome giveaways, with super expensive prizes to be had for FREE! Learn how to do it yourself. Signup is required and class size limited.

Women�s Book Discussion Group:
Thursdays OCTOBER 8th ,15th, and 22nd at 11:00am
Choice of reading will be �The Book Thief� By Markus Zusak. Death himself narrates the World War II-era story of Liesel Meminger from the time she is taken, at age nine, to live in Molching, Germany, with a foster family in a working-class neighborhood of tough kids, acid-tongued mothers, and loving fathers who earn their living by the work of their hands. Death is not a sentimental storyteller, but he does attend to an array of satisfying details, giving Liesels story all the nuances of chance, folly, and fulfilled expectation that it deserves. Professional moderator Lorraine Vincent Rice will lead the discussion. The fee is $12.

Hair Cuts for Seniors:
Tuesday October 13th 10-1pm
Linda Mezzatesta of Shear Impulse in Danbury will be giving discounted haricuts the 2nd Tuesday of each month at the center.  Contact Linda at 512-5365 for appointments.

Kitchen Class:
Tuesday, OCTOBER 13th 1:30 pm
Nick Guarino is in the kitchen showing us Sicilian Sausage Rolls.  This is a free class, with the best part is sampling the finished product!

Golden Opportunities: 
Thursday OCTOBER 15th at 2:00 pm  Fun, games and great prizes with Golden Opportunities. 

Blood Pressure Screening and �Ask the Nurse�:
Wednesday, OCTOBER 21st Connecticut VNA will be here the 3rd Wednesday of every month with Blood Pressure Screening starting at 1pm. This provider welcomes your health questions, too.

Zumba Trial Class:
Tuesday October 20th and 27th
Fitness Instructor Colleen Kremple is now a Certified Zumba Instructor and is holding two free classes to try this New Fun exercise program Man.  In the past years Zumba� has become nothing short of a revolution. Coining the concept of fitness-party� and making fitness fun, Zumba� has spread like wild-fire, and has positioned itself as the single most influential movement in the industry of fitness.

Medicare Changes with Michael Dutton :

Medicare rules change every year.  This year is no exception.  If you want to know what changes will occur in 2010 and how they will affect you, come to this informative program presented by Michael Dutton, an agent with Mutual of Omaha.  Bring your questions; he�ll have answers.

Red Hat Luncheon: 
Tuesday OCTOBER 27th 1:30pm
The Sunshine Rambling Roses is the only New Fairfield officially registered chapter of the Red Hat Society. Red Hat Society is a unique �disorganization� of woman over the age of fifty who gather in order to share one another�s lives and to make our own fun. Embrace life and womanhood.  We are holding out our red-gloved hands and inviting you to join our monthly luncheon held the last Tuesday of each month, signup required.
