| The Niagara Frontier Newfoundland Club (NFNC) is a regional club of the Newfoundland Club of America (NCA). There are approximately twenty-six active regional clubs of which the Niagara Frontier was the first being recognized in 1969. It covers Western and Central New York State, within 100 miles radius from the city of Buffalo, New York. The objectives of the club shall be; as stated in its constitution. * to encourage and promote the understanding and appreciation of the pure-bred Newfoundland Dog, and to perform and to encourage such activities as will enhance its natural qualities to perfection. * to urge members and breeders to accept the standard of the breed as approved by the American Kennel Club as the only standard of excellence by which Newfoundland dogs shall be judged. * to do all in its power to protect and advance the interests of the breed by encouraging sportsmanlike competition at dog shows, obedience trials, tracking tests, water tests and draft tests. * to conduct sanctioned and licensed specialty shows, obedience trials, and tracking tests under the rules of the American Kennel Club, and water and draft tests under the rules of the Newfoundland Club of America. * to cooperate and encourage the objectives and sanctions of the Newfoundland Club of America, Inc. and do such other things as may be deemed expedient and for the best interests of the club. * to abide by the Code Of Ethics of the Club. The NFNC has been fulfilling these objectives for over thirty years now. Most notably by hosting four NCA National Specialty shows in 1973, 1983, 1993, 2003 and five regional specialty shows in 1978, 1985, 1989, 1994 and 1997. Conformation and obedience matches are held annually. Activities include a summer picnic, water and draft workshops, winter carnival and educational programs. Members enjoy a newsletter...."Niagara Newfs". Other priviledges include access to an impressive library of dog oriented books and videos. These books and videos are added to and updated frequently and are available to members at no cost. A club dog cart and harness are also available to those interested in carting. The NFNC has a rescue committee which finds suitable homes for lost, abused and abandoned Newfs. It also reunites lost Newfs with their owners. Because of the vast network of regional club rescue committees an NFNC member's chances of recovering their missing Newf are greatly increased and a Newf removed from an unsatisfactory environment is more likely to be successfully placed in a good home. The NFNC has a year long calendar of Newf related activities, but, the most important benefit of membership in the Niagara Frontier Newfoundland Club is the company of others possessed by the beloved Newfoundland. |
