The Jade Buddha Temple was built in 1918. According to Fodor, during the cultural revolution, the temple was saved from destruction by pasting portraits of Mao Zedong on the walls so that the Guards could not tear them down without destroying Mao's face as well. I think that our guide said that Mao's protraits were pasted on the cases containing the Jade Buddhas. In addition to the two jade Buddhas, there was a multitude of gods and guardians of various sizes.
