The West Coast
There are 3 places on the West coast that are usually hit for bouldering. First there is the caves in Corner Brook. Then form there you can head to the 2 boulders in Pasadena. Then head up North past Gros Morne to the Arches. As of now I dont have any pics to include but there will be shortly.
Corner Brook
In Corner Brook there is a limestone cave that is very nice for bouldering. To access this cave continue along the TCH to the west side of Corner Brook past Massey Drive turnoff. You will pass a road sign that says Port aux Basque 216 km. Shortly after this sign there is a gravel road with a gate across it. Park next to, but not in front of the gate. Walk straight along the road to the flume, big black pipe, dont cross the bridge over the flume start walking along side of it. Continue along until a large steel transmission tower is on your left. Then cut right down the imbankment to the cave. It is easy to find when you go down the embankment.
This is also a great place to camp. You can camp in the cave or just outside of it. The rock texture is excellent and the length of problems are excellent for endurance.
Pasadena
Pasadena is located about 30 km east of Corner Brook. Access the 2 boulders by turning off of the TCH onto Main St, then about 2 km up the road there is a Canadian Helicopters sign, turn here. Then on the right is a Knights of Columbus building. Park here and walk along the dirt track that continues to the boulders.
I havent camped here but I guess you could camp at the boulders.
Unfortunately this pic only shows one of the two boulders
The Arches
To access the Arches you have to drive through Gros Morne national park. The Arches is a provincial park that is up north from Gros Morne. To access the Arches you follow the signage to the park. Continue along and park in the lot. The Arches are then directly in front of you. There are numerous problems here although I must warn you that the rock texture is like glass on concrete. It is very sharp and unforgiving!
You can camp at the far right of the Arches in a large grassy field. The sunsets here are spectacular.
