Here is the notice published in the Ottawa Citizen :

Yves Blanchard, 64, son of Lucette Gariepy and the late Dr. Sarto Blanchard, died on Sunday, May 22nd, 2005, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his family, after a very courageous battle against Lou Gehrig's disease. He will be sadly missed by his loving and devoted wife Marie Maltais, his children Stphane (Dr. Patricia MacCallum), Marie-Claude and Mystique. He also leaves behind his three grandchildren, Devyn, Ethan and Madison; his mother Lucette Garipy, his sisters Lyse Blanchard (Jamie Kass), Sylvy Garipy and Nicole (Dr. Louis Larivire); his brothers Sarto Blanchard (Louise Lemieux) and Jean-Jacques Garipy; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends. Yves worked at the National Film Board from 1968 to 1984 and retired from the Federal Government in 1998 after 33 years of service. His passion for haute cuisine, golf and tennis made his retirement years most enjoyable. Yves will be remembered for his gentle and quiet ways, his deep spiritual approach to life, and most of all, for the serenity and grace with which he faced the devastating effects of Lou Gehrig's disease. Yves and Marie were very fortunate to be surrounded in a circle of warmth and affection throughout the past two years by a devoted group of committed caregivers, specialists and private nurses who expressed unconditional love and support. Yves and Marie were particularly blessed by the presence, care and support of Dr. Louise Coulombe, Yves' palliative care doctor. Wonderful and generous friends and a loving family filled out that circle with many visits, homemade food, scrabble games, house repairs, walk to D'Feet ALS, cards, flowers, e-mails, telephone calls and countless other marks of support and affection. Yves felt comforted with all the affection and love he experienced. There will be no visitation and a Catholic funeral service will take place at Sacr-Coeur Church at 591 Cumberland Street, on the campus of the University of Ottawa on May 27 at noon. A reception will follow. Donations to the ALS Society of Ontario (Amyotrophic Lateral Scleroris) (613) 820-2267, in lieu of flowers would be much appreciated. The family will receive expressions of sympathy an hour before the funeral service. Condolences and donations may be made at www.heritagefh.ca Heritage Funeral Home (613) 830-2305.
