General Review:
This book is an in depth look at the deeper meanings of Wiccan theology, belief and practice. The author goes into great philosophical detail about deities, nature, the immanence of God/dess, magic, gender, etc. In one chapter entitled ‘Descending into the Depths’ she discusses how witches undergo encounters with the Underworld to be reborn and to develop spiritually. I loved this chapter!
The author did a great job explaining how people work with energies during rituals. I agreed with an awful lot of the ideas presented in this book, which is rare for me! What I liked best about the book was its pluralistic outlook; the author presented a variety of differing Wiccan viewpoints while not endorsing any beliefs above others. The book is also one of the most open-minded pagan books I’ve read. I recommend the chapter ‘Wicca and Mainstream Religion: Bridging the Divide.’ It talks about how to be Wiccan in a Judeo-Christian society, and it has wonderfully tolerant and viable advice. I think every neo-pagan should read this chapter!
In conclusion, I would definitely recommend this book. It’s in the top ranks of Wicca books I have read.
