In Norse mythology, Hel (sometimes called Hell or Hela) was the daughter of Loki (who was basically the Norse Satan) and a giantess. One of three monsterous children from that union. The other two are a wolf and a gigantic snake. One big happy family.
Youll hear different descriptions of her appearance depending on where you look (Ive found a different one in almost every book and website Ive searched through), but most say that she was half one way and half another. One book I read says that half of her was beautiful like her father, and the other half was hideous, a rotting corpse. So shed have a normal (though exceptionally lovely) eye on one side of her face, and an empty socket on the other.
She was sent to be the ruler of the Underworld. Some say that she had a power of seduction over men. Why did I write a song about her? I find the half and half deal kind of fascinating. Shes certainly a very interesting (if totally evil) character.
This one is being almost constantly re-written.
Hel
Mondays child, shes fair of face
Skin like silk, as pale as lace
Eyes a deep rich azure blue
Lips that beckon, call to you.

Profile perfect, all you see
Half the grandeur that is she
Turns, she turns and motion slips
Silent screams escape your lips

(chorus I)
Maiden death
Queen of pain
Madame torment
Hel her name.

Wednesdays corpse with rotting scull
One blue eye still winks a call
Half your death and half your bride
Wedding dirges to her side.

Earth is peeling to her feet
Sky an endless blaze. White heat.
They warned you not to judge by face
Too late for that in her embrace.

(chorus II)
Lokis girl
Wolf-sons belle
Maiden death
The Lady Hel.

(ending bridge)
There are two sides to everything
There are two sides to everything.
Sometimes just beneath
Sometimes underneath
Its a misery game (that she plays)

Milady of Darkness
Hel her name.
