The singer Mariela Gonzalez have left the band. That was not a
surprise for me, because i could imagine that she didn’t feel at home in
Nexus. Specially Lalo Huber and in less amount Carlos Lucena took some time
for some to much long musical trips. I think that more of the ½ material
from Nexus is without singing. So it is logical that the ambitions of a
solo carrier maked she leaving easy. To atracced a new singer is an option,
but its hard to find a singer who want to stay to much time in the
coulissen (beside the stage). They choose now the vocal of Carlos. A good
choise because he can do it very well in Spanish. It fits outstanding with
the Music style and it would not given tension with the other members.
The forelast album was for me alway the best. Specially the
impressive track “En las manos de Dios” is great because the guitar solo
and the song you can’t find so easy from 10 other songs. Its beautiful.
The next album took 5 years. Beside some new changes of band
members the album didn’t change in a different musical way. So again
some long keyboard and guitar duels in 6 songs. In total 75 minutes. It
sounds still a bit like E, L and Palmer, but the parts of Huber is more
polished and … (I can’t translate that word but it sounds good) His
keyboards sounded powerfull, beautiful and very wide. His soulmate Carlos
is a great guitarist with many diversity. Together the make a great musical
party full of diversity and ingenuity. For the drummer and bassplayer
its doesn’t bother if there is singing or not, but they are craftsman.
The most highlight of the cd is the opening track of 17 minutes,
‘To look towards the Center’ Its tipical Nexus! Full of hammond,
melotron, etc. And followed by the playing of the guitar player, and there
is space for his solo parts. After all these years the band played better
and better together. The titel song is great. Its a whole 15 minutes nice
song. On the song ‘From the Abyss to the Sun’ , the power take back and
there is place for rest where the emotional way of singing is on
there place. The instrumental “Journey” is a keyboard party. “Crosses and
Shadows” puts the well known ingredients. On the last song, ‘In that
Wind’ is Lito Marcello a new face, but the Music doesn’t change.
Perpetuum Karma is a tasty dish, a tasty CD, beautifully mixed and
they didn’t change the well known Nexus sound. The strikking and good
singer Mariela was and is not (only in the studio) missing. The chosen
solution is good, but the instrumental work stays dominant and that’s what
Nexus wants.
