Annoying Kid

This episode will air November 11th

HUGE THANKS TO YVETTE for providing this spoiler. Everything Written is hers. So everyone say a big YAY to her!

As always they show an episode before the taping that will air soon after. Tonight they showed "Robert Needs Money" which will be airing on Monday. It is a very funny episode and Brad is fantastic in it. Also, the last line in the episode that Debra says (I wont give it away) is so hilarious!!

OK, on to the episode that was taped today. First of all, it is entitled "Annoying Kid," and will air on November 11th.
(According to the program that they give out).  There were 3 guest stars, one of which is the woman from Curb Your Enthusiasm (I don't remember her name but she has blond hair) also, there was an actor playing her husband (I don't remember his name either). And a young actor who plays their son, Spencer (the "Annoying Kid")

As always Ray talks to the audience before the taping begins and then introduces each member of the cast. Unlike the last taping I saw
(which was for "Pet the Bunny") this time each actor is an Emmy Award winner. So Ray talked about how now every member of the cast has won an Emmy. His wife Anna was also their and usually he only brings one of his kids with him but tonight he had his son Greg as well as his 4 year old Joe. (Joe is sooooo adorable!!!) Patty also gave away a signed copy of her book. It was given to the person who traveled the farthest (someone from Australia won it). OK, so on to the actual episode....

(Just a note. Practically half of the episode takes place in Ray and Debra's living room and since they shoot it all continuously I might be wrong about where one scene ends and the next begins..So bear with me please. )

We begin in Ray and Debra's living room for the Teaser. They are sitting on the couch along with their new 2 new friends
(the guest stars mentioned above) I don't remember their characters names so for this recap I will just refer to them as "the wife" and "the husband." So they're all sitting there and Deb says "God this is so much fun, I don't know why we waited so long to get together," then the husband says "I don't really like being around people." Of course Ray agrees with him and Debra says "if Ray could, he would stay in the bathroom all day." Ray and the husband talk about golf and decide they should "hit a bucket of balls sometime." The wife goes, "God Debra these cannoli's are great." Debra says thank you and then Ray says, "Tell the truth." Debra admits that Rays Mom made them. Ray tells them that his moms Cannoli's are one of his favorite things in life. Debra then says "I'm on that list too somewhere, right after his golf bag." The wife goes, "So your mother in law just makes food and brings it over?" Debra goes "Yup, from right across the street." The wife says, "They (The Cannoli's) aren't that good. (As in, its not worth having to live across the street from your mother in law.) Then the wife says "My husband's parents have decided to ruin our Thanksgiving by spending it with us, and I'm sure his Mother will fake a sprained ankle and have to spend the whole winter with us." Debra responds by saying "I still win, for me its ALWAYS winter." as she points across the street.  All of a sudden the twins and Spencer run down stairs yelling and playing with toy laser guns. Spencer runs around the couch and goes straight to Ray. He points the laser gun at him and says something like "Must destroy the enemy!" in this really annoying robotic voice. Ray tries to look amused and says, "I'm sure there are a lot of enemies outside, so why don't you kids go play out there." Somewhere during all of this the twins ask Debra if there are any more Cannoli's and she tells them that she just bought some new cookies and that they are in the kitchen for them. The boys run off to the kitchen.
As Ray is telling Spencer to go play outside he stands up to get something off of the table. While he is standing Spencer holds his laser gun pointing upward on Rays chair. Ray goes to sit down and of course screams as he sits down on the point of the laser gun. Spencer again says something about destroying the enemies and Ray says "You almost destroyed my heiney."
(In another take he said something else but I can't remember what the line was.)

The next scene takes place where we left off in Ray and Debra's living room. I'm pretty sure at this point Spencer is in the kitchen along with the twins. Ray gets up and asks Debra if there are any more Cannoli's, Debra says that there is one more. Ray gets excited and starts walking to the kitchen. He stops and asks the guests if they want it, they say no and he says "I knew I liked you guys." he pats Debra on the head and goes to the kitchen to get his cannoli. As he gets in there he sees Spencer holding the cannoli. Ray says, "Oh Spencer, actually the Cannoli's are for the grown ups, why don't you have a cookie, they're sugary and sprinkley" Spencer says "eew I HATE cookies." Ray repeats that the cannoli's are for the adults and Spencer says "I'm a guest." and he bites into the cannoli. Spencer then says "This is gross." He goes to the trash can, spits out what he has in his mouth and throws the rest away. Ray stands there stunned and pissed.

Next, Ray goes back into the living room and Debra asks if he ate the cannoli. Ray says "Do you see a cannoli in my hand? If I don't have a cannoli in my hand that probably means I didn't!"
(In another take Ray just said "nope" in a really sarcastic way.)  The wife and husband decide that they better be going home and as they all get up the wife says "Once our house is done being remodeled you guys will have to come over." Debra says "Well the kids wont want to wait that long to see each other, why don't you come over next weekend." The wife says "No, no, I don't want to intrude, you already have enough to deal with your in-laws." Then Debra says, "Yeah but there's a difference, you're INVITED." At this point little Spencer comes running in and his Mom says "Say good-bye to Ray and Debra." and Spencer says "Good-bye to Ray and Debra," in his annoying robotic voice. Debra says "Good-bye Spencer." in a robotic voice. The family leaves and Debra tells Ray how wonderful it was having them over. She looks at her watch and says "They were here for 4 hours and it just flew by!" Ray says, "No, it felt like four hours." Debra walks to the table and starts picking up all the coffee cups and she is going on about how great it was to spend time with them and what a great family they are. Ray makes a sarcastic comment and Debra asks him what's wrong. Ray says, "I'm not crazy about the boy." Debra says "Spencer, what, he's a cute kid." Ray says "Cute? What, has the word lost all its meaning?" Ray makes a comment about how annoying Spencer's voice is and then Debra says something like "you're the last person who should be talking about annoying voices." Debra says he's being ridiculous and that she feels bad for him because instead of concentrating on the great afternoon they just had, he is focusing on the microscopic negative. Ray says "It doesn't take a microscope to see how annoying that kid is." Ray tells Debra that Spencer steals. When Debra asks what he is talking about, he tells her about the cannoli. Debra says "So you're upset that you didn't get a 3rd cannoli?" Ray tells her how he threw it away and he goes over to the trash can and just stares at the spit up cannoli. He says something like "look at it!!!" Debra says "You know what the problem is, you don't like kids." Ray says that's ridiculous, he's a "kid person," Debra says, "Name one kid that you like." Ray starts blathering on and on about how he loves kids and Debra says that he is stalling. Ray tells her that he likes Bernie and Linda's kid, David. Debra quickly corrects him and says the kids name is Benjamin. Then Debra says, "We hardly ever see Benjamin." To which Ray replies "That's right. It gives us a chance to miss him. And I look forward to seeing him again in a couple of years." Ray brings up the incident with the laser gun on the chair and says "That could have been an embarrassing trip to the emergency room." Debra says that she doesn't have any friends and she is really enjoying spending time with this family. Ray says that he has friends that she likes (Gianni and Andy) and somewhere in all of this Marie and Frank get brought up and Debra says "They're not our friends, in fact, they are friend repellent!" Debra tells Ray that Spencer is a good kid and that this family is great and that they will continue to spend time with them. Ray says "That's fine, as long as the kid isn't there." Debra reminds him how Ray and the husband wanted to go golfing and Ray says "Yeah I want to go golfing with him, but if Spencer is the caddy then I'm out." Debra basically tells Ray that he is going to have to deal with Spencer because she is not going to lose friends over such a ridiculous thing. Ray says "fine, but the next time they come over I won't be here." Debra says "OK, then you tell them that the reason you won't spend time with them is because of their son." Ray says "I won't have to tell them because I won't be there." Debra says "then I'll tell them, but it will ruin the friendship." Ray says "Fine with me." Debra blows up at him and says that it's not fine. She tells him that Ray WILL spend more time with them and that she believes that he can find a way to deal with a child. She calmly walks out of the kitchen and Ray looks annoyed and says "That kid owes me a cannoli!" (In another take he says something like "he hurt my heiney!")

(Another note: this scene was very long and the conversation between Ray and Debra had a lot of dialogue so I'm sure that I not only missed some stuff, but also that this is probably not the exact order it was said in.)

For this scene, it's already the next week and the husband, wife, and Spencer are all at Ray and Debra's house. They are all sitting in the living room,
(including Marie and Frank, Robert is in the kitchen). Marie says something like "Ray has beautiful skin now, but when he was younger, he had blemishes. Remember when you came home from school crying because someone called you Pimply Pete." We hear Robert cracking up from the kitchen and then Marie says, "But he grew out of it, just like Robert grew out of his little night time accidents." Robert of course gets mad that she is taking about this. Ray is laughing and he says "Hey what are you complaining about, I was on the bottom bunk!" (In another take he says "Yeah, and you still owe me a pair of slippers.") All of a sudden Ally comes running down the stairs screaming because the boys (the twins and Spencer) are all chasing her. She runs towards Ray and then Spencer makes another annoying robot comment and Debra tells Ally to go play on Ray's computer. Spencer says to the twins "lets go jump on the bed." Ray tells them not to and Spencer says that they are spiders so they HAVE to jump and fly. Ray says "well actually spiders don't fly." Spencer says "actually, they do! They ride on air currents." Marie makes a comment about how bright Spencer is and Frank says to Ray "He told you Einstein". Ray won't drop it and he brings up how Spiderman swung around on his web but he didn't fly. He keeps going on and on and Spencer just stands there. When Ray is done Spencer walks away with a frowny face. (During Rays little speech about the spiders he messed up like 6 times. After about the 4th Patricia says "Big shot Emmy winner at work here everybody.") Anyway, after Spencer and the kids go upstairs Ray goes into the kitchen. He starts to walk in their, turns around, and whispers to Debra, "Did you see the way he looked at me!" He goes into the kitchen and makes a comment. Robert asks what the problem is. Ray says that he is looking for aspirin because Spencer is driving him crazy. Robert agrees and they talk about how annoying Spencer's voice is. Robert comments on how strange Spencer is, and as he is saying this he is eating chips and doing the chin touching thing. Ray says that he can't stand Spencer and Frank walks in and says "Who can't we stand? Your mother?" Ray tells Frank how annoying Spencer is and Frank tells Rob and Ray that all kids are annoying and that they were just as annoying when they were younger. Ray disagrees and says he was never that annoying. Frank says "Well he's definitely smarter than you were. It's still close call NOW." All of a sudden Robert starts laughing and says to Ray "You stink!" Ray responds by saying "You stink!" Robert points to the fridge and there, in alphabet magnets, it says "Ray Stinks." Ray of course knows that it was Spencer. Robert says "How do you know it was him?" Ray says "Well you didn't do it, dad did you do it?" Frank says "If I did it, it wouldn't say stinks." Robert says that maybe it was the twins but Ray says that if it was them they would have written "Daddy stinks." Marie walks in soon after and says "Come on you two, I made some chicken (to Robert and Frank) Robert says "Ray stinks" and Marie says "He doesn't stink, he just smells natural." All of a sudden they hear this really loud thumping and its coming from upstairs. Frank says "jeez-a-loo" and then Ray realizes its the kids jumping on the bed. He says "That's it, I'm going up there." He starts to run off, stops, runs back to the kitchen and messes up the magnets on the fridge. Marie says "Lets go guys." to Frank and Robert and Robert says "Go ahead without me, I want to take a crack at this." (the alphabet magnets)

The next scene is Ray going into the twins bedroom. They are all jumping from bed to bed and Ray yells for them to stop. The twins run out of the room and Ray tries to stop Spencer before he leaves. Spencer slithers past him and as Ray is chasing after him, he trips on the toys on the floor. Next we see the kids running down the stairs and Ray running after them limping a bit. As he is rushing past Debra and the wife and husband he says something like "We're having so much fun." and as he is saying this he trips and falls again behind the couch. He gets up quickly and runs into the kitchen to follow the boys outside. He runs into the chair and then knocks over the bowl of chips that Robert and Frank were eating in the previous scene.
(In the first scene he just ran into the chair. When they did it again he knocked over the bowl of chips. I'm not sure if he actually planned to knock the bowl over though...either way it was very funny.)

Next we are in Ray and Deb's backyard and Ray is still chasing after Spencer. The twins run off but this time Ray is able to stop Spencer. He tells him that he just wants to talk to him for a minute. Ray starts talking to him about jumping on the bed and all of a sudden Spencer says "System overload." and collapses his head against the swing set. Ray goes "What are you doing Spencer? No one likes this. Stop it." Now Debra, the wife, and husband all come outside and Debra asks Ray if everything is OK. Ray says "Yeah everything is fine I was just talking to Spencer." Spencer's dad sees Spencer motionless resting against the swing set and says "Uh oh, this looks like a system overload." he runs over and asks Spencer whats wrong. Spencer says "He (Ray) was yelling at me." Everyone looks at Ray and he says "No, no, i wasn't yelling I was just talking to him like this, no like this.....like this."
(as he is saying 'like this, like this', he keeps lowering his voice,In another take he said "no I wasn't yelling I was just doing this singsong thing 'Spencer stop ruuunnning' so it might have sounded like I was yelling but I wasn't.") After this Ray says "I just wanted to talk to him about not jumping on the bed and listening to adults and writing 'Ray stinks' on people refrigerators." Spencer's Mom says "Spencer did you do that?" Spencer says "We were all doing it." Ray says that he will talk to the twins also and then the husband says "Well Ray I'm sure they were just playing around." Debra agrees and Ray tries to play it off like its no big deal. (at this point Spencer has run off I think)The wife tries to explain to Ray that the flip side of having such a bright child is that he can be very sensitive and you need to know the right way to talk to him. The husband tells him that Spencer responds better to rational talk than to yelling. Ray again tells them that he wasn't yelling and Debra cuts in and says "Well Ray, you're this big intimidating adult so I'm sure to Spencer it may have sounded like you were yelling." The wife says "Don't worry about it Ray, sometimes people just don't realize that they need to adjust their attitude when they are with other peoples children." Debra agrees and then the wife says something about how Ally and the twins are "Conventional." Debra says "What do you mean conventional?" the wife says, "No conventional was the wrong word, your kids are great." Then the husband says "And I'm sure in regard to their development they are right on track." Ray and Debra looked shocked and annoyed and then Debra says "Well yeah, Spencer, He's really a......special kid." At first the wife agrees then she says "What do you mean....special?" Debra says "Nothing, I'm just saying, Spencer is a very unique boy." The wife says yes he is. They stand there in an awkward silence for a while and then the wife says, "Well, I should help you clean up because we really need to get going." They call Spencer, He runs up to his dad and stomps on his foot and then runs away. Then we hear him screaming from off screen and he is yelling that he is invisible and the wife is yelling back at him and Spencer screams "I HATE you!!" (we don't actually see any of this, its just heard from around the other side of the house). Debra walks over and yells "Take care." in a very sarcastically sweet way. As she walks back towards Ray she says "Freaks." Ray says something about how Debra should have "Taken her, " (the wife) and tells her he would have "Had her back." Debra says "The kids really loved Spencer, what are we gonna tell them?" Ray says "We'll just tell him the truth, that their little friend had to go to prison." (In another take he said "we'll just tell them the truth, that the wicked which cooked him into a pie." and the 3rd take he said, "we'll just tell them the truth, that their little friend melted away.")

The final tag takes place in Marie's kitchen. Marie is cooking or something, she looks at the fridge and there, in the alphabet letters it says, "Marie stinks." Marie yells "FRANK!!" and from the other room we hear Franks sly, mischievous laugh.

Well, that's it. A few last notes:

Durring one portion of the taping one of the writers talks to the audience and answers any questions. Someone asked if ELR will ever be released on DVD and Tom (the writer) said they definitely will be but they need to work out all the "technical stuff" first. He said the DVDs will be a great collection and that they would probably have a lot of directors cuts and outtakes and fun stuff like that.

Peter Boyle's birthday is this Friday (the 18th) so after the taping, Ray reintroduced the cast and then they brought out a big birthday cake for Peter and the whole audience, cast, and crew all sang happy birthday. It was very sweet.

I know on the message board at Rayromano.com a lot of people were commenting on how Debra wears red in practically every episode, so in case anyone was curious, she does indeed wear red in this episode.

I went to the taping by myself and for some reason the girl that seats everyone decided that it would be OK if I sat in the FRONT row! (for those of you who haven't been to taping, usually the first few rows are for friends of the cast, production or any VIP's. So that was very exciting.) I had seen a little clip from Rayromano.com about what happens after a taping ends and it shows the cast signing autographs and taking pictures with people in the audience who stayed after, so obviously, I tried to stay after the taping to see if I could maybe meet some of the cast but one of the usher people asked me if I knew anyone from production (apparently you can only stay after if you know someone) I thought about lying and saying "Yes of course I do." but i figured she could easily check to see if i was telling the truth. So instead i just left =(

There really weren't very many outtakes (like when I saw Pet the Bunny) which are always very funny to see. But all in all, I had a great time!!
