A Fine
Romance
excerpt from the novella
by Robert Kail
-
She was young; he was young. They fell in love, they married.
Life
-
was heaven for a while. Then
reality slogged in on leaden feet. Nothing
-
lasts forever.
-
He had met her in New York. She was ‘society’, but poor relations.
-
And tired of being poor. He
was rich but innocent, shrewd in business, yet
-
naive in love. The son of the Wolf
of Wall Street and heir to a chain of hotels,
-
he loved being the boss at twenty-six.
He loved his work, and he loved her.
-
But she was a dream. His dream. A dream of a home that he never
-
knew, of a wife loyal and compliant,
yet strong in her own right. His work demanded that he travel, with
his bride, to establish himself as the new head
-
of the Dekoster Hotels Corporation.
No longer in his father’s shadow, behind
-
his mother’s skirts, he had to show
himself to be the dynamic young executive who could set their faltering
corporation on the path to success.
