And then there was my bio...

I as mthq joined the Simcity community in January 2001 as LKUYGKUFAYGKREUGA. During my rookie years, I made suburban/Californian type buildings such as K-mart, Sam's Club, several different gas stations, and other realworld commercial retail.

Now we fast foward to November 2001 in which after the tragedies, I began to go to the bookstore more often to look up books on NYC. I did this to get away from the Afghanistan coverage that was all over television even by November, and so as I looked up more books about NewYork, I later found myself laying out the terrain to what would be to most realistic NYC ever made using Simcity 3000.

Sure there are other great Simcity projects out there such as Bappingham and the New Salem Project, but NewYork City is the last place anyone would expect to be seen as a sort-of realistic version because of the cities size and its skyscrapers that people would expect to take many years to build on Simcity. However to cut time, I decided to make Manhattan Island only (although Brooklyn/Queens, and Jersey were part of the original plans.

I hope to see this trend of projects to continue onto Simcity 4 once EA/Maxis releases a BAP for #4. I think these kinds of projects made by groups of people is a good idea because it gives you a break from the usuall Simcity generated mess of repeating buildings when playing SC the correct way. But what I think makes these projects popular is that they can be downloaded to keep as a trophy, but it can also be ment to use in an interactive way by being the mayor. Afterall, how many times do you get to be in charge of a NYC-lookalike in your lifetime?
