Week Three
I have decided rather than do a daily entry that I would just summarize each week into one post. This week has been frustrating and exciting at the same time. I e-mailed Michelle, who is the nutritionist in Dr. Watson's office, because I was concerned that I was getting enough protein and vitamins due to the liquid diet. She sent me a post-op diet which was more restrictive than what Dr. Watson had given me when I left the hospital. This diet focused on protein drinks and everything was sugar-free which Dr. Watson had told me not to be concerned about. I tried to do that diet for three days. I absolutely hate protein drinks/shakes so I was miserable. I wasn't eating much because I can't stand the taste of them and became really depressed. Friday morning I decided that I was going to move onto soft foods. Michelle had said that I could begin them in a week but I couldn't handle the liquid diet any longer. Friday morning I had some oatmeal with a lot of milk poured in. I seemed to handle it very well and felt full and satisfied. I wasn't hungry again until late that afternoon. I stopped by Taco Bueno for some refried beans and guacamole. I had never had a more delicious meal. I didn't care too much for the guacamole

Saturday I met some people from the bandits UTSW yahoo group for lunch. It was so nice to have lunch with people who understood my food issues. Our group consisted of Tina, who just had a fill Friday; Helen, who came with her mother and has had two fills, and John, who is four years post and a real expert. I learned so much from listening to the experiences. I am looking forward to getting my first fill and having some restriction. It was also good to hear from John who is a self-proclaimed rule breaker because I was feeling some guilt about starting my soft food diet sooner than the nutritionist had instructed. He made me feel me that it was okay to take control of my eating. I spent the rest of the weekend celebrating my birthday with friends and family. I was ecstatic that I was able to buy the next smaller size jeans and fit into them. So far I have lost 23 lbs. I am a little disappointed that the weight loss has slowed down but hopefully it will pick back up in week four.
