From what we can make out it, in Leighton's words 'just sort of came together'. All members have had experience in other bands before. John and Matt, the guitar playing cousins in a band called 'Natural Assets' who practiced for a while but it didn't quite come off and they didn't get round to gigging. Leighton used to play drums in another local band called 'Chemical Reaction'. However, his drumming talents were not all that good and he quit the band after only one month. He instead turned to the guitar, being given a Fender as a Christmas present by his parents. He and John had known each other for years, having gone to the same primary school, but John was a year older so it was only when they met again in college that they started talking again. Both had the talent and desire to start a band and so with a phone call to Matt, Talisman were born.
Originally, practices mostly consisted of just Leighton and John as Matt lived too far away to take part in daily practices. However, the band soon had regular practices at the Welsh National Ice Rink along with full support from the managers there.
The name 'Talisman' came as the band awoke on a Saturday morning after practice the night before. Matt opened the paper to a page containing an advertisement for a lucky 'Talisman' which would make the wearer's life turn for the better. the word 'Talisman' stuck out and, for want of a better name, they used it.
The band are now working hard to establish themselves on the music scene with their own unique blend of guitar mastery with melodic sing-along tunes. This web-site is their official internet base.
