Farewell from Hayden and Liz

- Hadyn and Liz Olsen

It's time to pass on the editorship and we are writing to let you know that we are stepping down and that others are taking up the responsibility for getting it all together and out to you. The Lord has opened new doors for us in the last eighteen months and we no longer have the time or the resources to put out this publication. Our heart initially for this magazine was that it would be a voice in the wilderness - that is, it would come forth as the Lord indicated and not something of, or catering to, the will of man. That is why New Wineskins has never been a regular monthly, bi-monthly or even 6 monthly exercise. It is so easy to get into that regularity thing, such that the magazine, the work, the ministry - or whatever we call it - is the all consuming goal, rather than the Lord Himself.

No doubt there are some of you who have been blessed and refreshed by this magazine - and others who may not. I know there are hundreds out there who have come out of churches, organisations, denominations and have thought they were going mad or back sliding because thy no longer could go along with things. If this magazine has been a supportive word and a comfort to you - Hallelujah! That is what we hoped it would be. Also if it has been an irritation, a challenge and even a thorn in the side - Praise God. Maybe we have caused you to check things out with God. This is also what we hoped for. Let's get real with God.

In all things these days I am mindful that the Lord must have pre-eminence and that He must have His people listening and obeying Him. This is what I hope for with all of you who are reading this. We must learn to walk with Him and according to Him. This is the issue. This is the journey and the school we have been placed in - and nothing will ever be real unless it comes forth from Him. The hope, and only hope, for the church today is that there might be individuals who are connected with the Lord in a living and real way. All else is religion and is for the most part worthless - or at worst - a diversion from Him.

So I hope that you dear reader might set your sights on Christ and walk the walk - run the race as He has put it before you. This is the challenge we find ourselves in every day. And He puts us in some interesting situations where faith is often tested. So all the best to the new editors and to those who read this magazine. Dig into Him and be fruitful.

Richest blessings,
Hadyn and Liz Olsen

Welcome from the new team

"For even as the body is one and yet has many members ... so also is Christ"

Welcome to those many new readers who have joined us since our last issue. A new season has begun with a new team made up of many willing volunteers who believe that the New Wineskins is to be back in print at this time and we trust that you too may feel this way. We would like to take this opportunity to convey our deep gratitude to Hadyn and Liz Olsen who helped co-launch this magazine. Their obedience, enthusiasm, encouragement and hard work has been greatly appreciated by many. Thank you Hadyn and Liz.

Some of you first time readers may be wondering how this magazine (hard copy) came to be in your hands. Well, often people forward the names of friends to us, unbeknown to them, but however it happened we would like to believe that it is not by chance that you are reading this magazine. Be assured this is not an official magazine of any group or organisation. Nor is it being used to spawn some new movement! The primary purpose of this magazine is to encourage people to drink of the new wine that flows from a living relationship with Jesus. Those who are religious don't like the new wine Jesus has to offer, for after drinking the old wine they think the old is good enough (Luke 5:39). Men have become too comfortable with religion and the changes required to partake of the new wine are radical and uncomfortable. We believe that Jesus still speaks to those who have an ear to listen and if this magazine spurs you on in your relationship with the living God then it has served its purpose. To assist with those desiring to go deeper with God we have included "Books in Touch", a book list, which contains some fifty books which have been carefully selected and realistically priced and it is our hope that the thrust of these books will help address the main issues to be faced if we are to ever enter the total newness of life that comes from the fullness of Christ.
