Knowing of joy and life lessons

A strength that comes only through loss and longing
A humility that comes from living modestly

I can’t break free from them or from myself
I used to run a race to an early finish line
I could almost hardly wait to run out of time
Misery and suffering didnt shock my world
For loss had come and gone in me
I lost things very dear and forgot I wasn’t alone
Forgot that mankind knew suffering all along
Find a place for your heart to live
In a world with so little hope
Take it not to a soul with no love to give

One shouldn’t be thanking their lucky stars
For blessings that were given today
For luck holds no answers and doesn’t go far

Doors slam shut and I grow strong

One time my spirit rose, with an eagle I flew
For just a moment I saw the world he knew
I caught a glimpse of mountains evergreen
He said it was my home that I had seen
As we flew through the morning I heard him cry
and he comforted me as we danced the sky
He gave me life on that morning new
And showed me the work I needed to do
Emotions are like changes in the wind
The clearest thought, the brightest day
Timeless, like age against glass
Pressing in essense in cool harmony
like motion through water, through time
Our pain simmers on through narrowing streets
Harboring deep within our thoughts, our souls

Yet nearly always look the same
