Pictures From Our Class!!

This is a picture of our room looking towards the board. You can see the ghosts that we made hanging from the ceiling. The pocket chart to the left contains all of our theme words for the month. (Word bank)The green apples on the board have our names on them. They have a strip of magnetic tape on the back. We use them for making graphs on the board and other activities. Right beside our names is our "Shape of the Day" This is also magnetic. All of our days activites are listed here.

Here is a close up view of our shape of the day. Lunch and recess are orange and any activity that we have with another teacher is yellow. Special activities like field trips, assemblies and videos are blue. Everything that we do on a regular basis is green. It is hard to remember to change this every day. There are always students who will remind me the next day!

Here is a close up of the words that we had in the word bank. Students used these in their journals and to write stories with. A picture is beside each word to help emergent readers know what the words say.

Here are two of the poems that we chanted and read for the month. We also have these poems in our poetry duotangs. These poetry duotangs are a favourite for my students! They love to read them during silent reading and literacy centres. Both of these poems came from the Kinder Korner website. It is a great resource!

This is a picture of the left hand side of our calendar area. This is where we do a lot math activities. We follow a Math Their Way type of calendar. On the top left is our calendar that we add a piace to every day. The daily piaces follow a pattern. This month the pattern is ABB. Beside this is a more traditional calendar. This is where we write our upcoming events and special days. We cross out a day each morning. Below the calendars are the days of the week bears. We have three hats for the bears to wear. They say "yesterday", "today", and "tomorrow" The students place these on the correct bears.

This is the other side of our calendar area. Here we keep a tally of the days that we have been in school. We also add one cube to our cube-a-day section at the bottom. The cubes are brouped into hundreds, tens and one. We have a total at the bottom of the tens column and at the bottom of the ones column. We also keep track of the weather and write the date here. To the side of our calendar area is a 100s chart. We move a Wikki Stick circle on this chart everyday to keep track of our days in schoo. This chart is also used for counting to 100 by 1s, 2s, 5s and 10s.

Pictures from Ms. Lowe's Grade One Class
(across the hall from us!)

Twirly tail ghosts

Ms. Lowe's grade one class made ghosts with long twirly tails. They spun around while they hung up in the air.

Garbage bag pumpkins

Ms. Lowe's grade one students took small garbage bags and stuffed them with newspapers and glued on jack'o'lantern faces. They were nice and big decorations!

Pictures from Mrs. Lepin's Grade One Class
(She teaches us personal planning!)

A Halloween Cat

The whole class made black cats that were hanging from the ceiling. I only took a picture of one of them. They had twirly tails like the ghosts from Ms. Lowe's class.

Halloween painting

Mrs. Lepin put Halloween coloured paint out at her art centre. The students were to paint Halloween scenes and then write about their pictures. The picture on the left says "I washed my pumpkin." and the picture on the right says "Halloween. On Halloween I am being a cat and I go trick or treat." I think they did quite well!

Pictures from Mrs. Ide and Ms. Murakami's Grade One Class

Skeletons!

The students made big skeletons with paper chains body parts. They also made flip book stories about things that frighten the. The story says: A _______ frightens me! The students made pictures of a few items that frightened them and stapled them onto the frame to make a flip book.
