The Day of School

Each year at our school, we have an assembly on the 100th day of school. All of the students from Kindergarten to Grade Three come down to the gym to celebrate.

Beforehand, each class has decorated a 100th day bulletin board outside of their room and has gotten something ready to wear to the assembly. Some ideas from previous years are:

Necklaces from 100 Cheerios or 100 Fruit Loops
Hats with 100 small stickers on them
A big cutout of a loonie (The $1 coin) on a popsicle stick with 100 penny stamps on the back
Headbands that say "I've been at school 100 days!"
Glasses made from the number 100
Big sheets of paper hanging from the neck like a sandwich board with 20 handprints on it and the numbers above each hand. 5- 10-20-25-30-35-40-45 etc.
Waving little 100th day flags

The ideas are endless!!

As the students enter the gym, they walk through a giant 100 that covers the entrance way. (They go through the zeros) They then walk along 100 footsteps before finding their spot on the floor.
During the assembly, we have many different classes participate. The teachers come up to the front and lead the students through 100 exercises (10 per teacher). These are mainly dance type moves that are easy to do.

We have a few students from each class come up to the front and we count out 100 children. A few classes come up and sing songs or recite 100th day poems. One class has students do various activities for 100 seconds.

Finally, we have the front wall covered with 100 balloons. One teacher pops each balloon as the students count them. They LOVE this part!!!

100th Day Activities

In groups of three or four, have students work on 100 piece puzzles.
Give pairs of students dice, crayons and a 100 grid. Taking turns, they roll the dice. The number on the dice is the number of squares they colour in. First to 100 is the winner.
Make designs using 100 pattern blocks or 100 lego pieces.
Make a class book. Some ideas are: "What I will look like at age 100" or "What I would buy if I had $100" or "If I could have 100 of anything, I would like 100 _______"
Have a 100th day snack! Ideas for the 1's are: pretzel sticks, wafer cookies, ladyfinger cookies, celery or carrot sticks. Ideas for the 0's are: mini donuts, round cookies, mini bagels etc.

Make a 100 link paper chain to hang up in the classroom.
Have three clear jars each filled with adifferent # of the same item. Students gues which one contains 100 items. Ideas to fill the jar are: mini erasers, m&m's, gumballs etc.
Collect 100 cans for charity. At my school, we try to get 100 cans from each grade.
