I got so many
pictures from my time living in India that
it is difficult to choose what to show here.
One day, I heard that some students were preparing a expedition to
Sikkim, the Indian Himalayan State, sharing the border with Nepal.
They were going to see the KANGCHENJUNGA,
the third highest peak in the world with 8586m high (28,169').
This is the Kangchenjunga.
A mountain like this is just unforgettable.
The original plan was to climb it until 5.000m, but you need a government
authorization to do that. We tried but they denied our request.
The next picture brings half of the team (called Horizon),
ready to live Behala, a neighborhood of Calcutta.
Benoit, Yvan, Rahul, Newton and Sebastien.
Four days later: Newton, Rahul, Mrinmoy, Runar,
Veeneth
and the Kangchenjunga!
This was the
highest point we reached: 4.000m in Phalut.
It was also the closest view of the Kangchenjunga.
Below you see
my favorite one: The Mount Everest !
The highest peak in the world. The top, the highest you can get.
I feel really good when I remember this moment.
After some days we had a problem with the porters.
Thay complained about their salary and wanted a raise.
We decided to fire them and carry the load: 5km extra to each one!
Here you see the group 5 minutes after the confusion.
Took us 12 days to complete the whole expedition.
In total, we trekked about 140km, crossing several times the border
with Nepal. Some times I thought I couldn't go ahead.
But once you're there you have no choice, just climb up.
The campus was
outside the city. But we use to go often to Calcutta
to have dinner or have some fun. Sometimes we did the opposite,
going to a village in the other direction.
This picture was taken inside a street bus going to this very poor village.
The restaurant was really poor,
but we use to have fun over there.
This one is in Calcutta, in a very nice restaurant called Barbecue.
Newton, Celine, Njal, Vivek, Yvan, Jacob and Juan.
Celine and Juan just in front of the Barbecue restaurant,
in Park Street, downtown Calcutta.
A classic picture. Njal in a rickshaw.
