How did you first hear about the Canaan Dog and what characteristics drew you to this breed?

I researched dogs through a few canine encyclopedias to see which breed I liked.  I hadnt heard of the Canaan dog before that, but quickly figured out it was by far my favorite breed.  Characteristics that drew me to the breed are: intelligence; appearance, agility, healthiness.

Is there significance behind your Canaan's name?

Phims breeder gave him the name Seraphim.  When I found out we were getting him, I looked at a lot of other names and had decided on a couple.  But when we got him, Phim seemed like the only name that fit.  Seraphim of course are the winged divine creatures.  Phim jumps so high, its like he could fly, but sometimes hes more of a devil than an angelic creature!

Captain "Phim" All aboard!
"practising for the world cup!"
If you were asked to describe Phim with three adjectives, what would these be and why?

The top three would be:
Athletic he loves to chase the soccer ball and cut/turn really fast to get away from us.  He also loves to take off sprinting when we go for walks, especially in wet or dewy grass.  He scoops the grass with his mouth to catch the water and sometimes ends up with a mouthful of grass, which he then tries to eat.  Our back yard has a couple of retaining walls, and he loves to leap from them to chase the ball, squirrels, bugs or birds.  Adventurous he loves to walk along the trails by the lake near our house and see what trouble he can get into.  He also has a lot of fun on our boat likes to put his paws up on the cushions at the front of the boat and lead the way for us or find a little spot to nap.  He is always eager to try new things.  And hes an escape artist when it comes to finding ways to get out of the kitchen area where he stays when we arent at home.  Headstrong he will get into trouble doing something he knows he shouldnt, look at me and do it all over again.
I love my classy water bowl!
What kinds of things do you and Phim enjoy doing together?

Going on walks and runs by our house or at the trails near the lake; playing fetch with the soccer ball; playing tug of war.  When we play fetch, he likes it best when I kick the soccer ball so it flies far and fast.  He waits near the retaining wall and jumps off to start the chase.  He loves for us to chase him with the soccer ball in his mouth so he can cut to watch us stumble or dodge us or sprint away.  He likes to cheat when playing tug of war hell bite on whatever were tugging, then accidentally work his mouth near your hand and give it a little bite just to loosen your grip!

Describe the most interesting incident to happen with your pariah pooch.

The first time the whole family went out to walk on the trails, we mostly were together when we started.  But my Mom & Dad walked slower, or didnt run when Phim did with my brother and I, so they got behind.  When Phim didnt see them right away, he stopped and headed back to herd them up with us again.  He did that a few times.  Then we separated for a while to see how high the water was in the creek and my parents turned around.  When we went back and werent sure which part of the trail they were on, Phim was sniffing along and suddenly sprinted to a trail to the right and pulled us along on his leash till he found Mom & Dad.  It was amazing!  I think he might have thought they were lost.
Brandon and the Phimster "an awesome team!"
Is their anything in particular that Phim has a real fondness for?

He especially likes anything hes not supposed to have.  He also likes my Dads leather with orange trim work gloves, but only when Dads hands are in them!  He doesnt seem to realize (or care) that the gloves arent a toy.  He loves going to the lake trails with my brother Kyle and I.  He cant wait to play fetch with the soccer ball outside and will keep it up till hes exhausted.

Are there any interesting qualities about him that you would like to share?

Even though hes just a pup and weve only had him for a few months, he is an amazing dog.  We all laugh at the way he bark talks to us kind of a combination bark/growl/whine with his mouth opening and closing mostly when were later than hed prefer when feeding him.  He loves to run and sprint and just takes off at top speed when we are on a walk.  I am a soccer player and my Dad is a runner, and we have a hard time keeping up with him.  My brother Kyle figured out that taking a scooter along is a good way to stay with him when he sprints.  We also think he likes to pose hell find a rock or stump or something that gets him up off the ground and put his front paws up on it, then gaze around as though he now has the wisdom of the world and we should take his picture!
