  • ****DO NOT TRY TO CANOE, TUBE, OR KAYAK IF THE RIVER IS ONE FOOT BELOW COMING OUT OF ITS BANKS!!!****
  • **ALWAYS TAKE AND WEAR LIFEJACKETS** The life jackets are located in the basement.
  • **ALWAYS SECURE CANOES, KAYAKS, PADDLES, AND LIFEJACKETS for trip to Put In and back!!**
  • All canoes, kayaks, paddles, truck and trailer are the USERS RESPONSIBILITY! IF YOU LOSE IT OR DAMAGE IT, YOU PAY FOR IT!!!!

  • The BIG GREEN CANOE is the most stable canoe. The two-seater kayak is also stable.
  • Put all equipment used back in its proper place.


    CANOE TRIP # 1



    Approximately 1 hr by canoe and approximately 1:40 by tube.

    PUT IN:


    • Go to paved road, take a left
    • Go 1 mile to Bent River Estates bridge
    • Park vehicles along right hand side of Bent River Driveway or along side the water wheel side of the road.

    TAKE OUT:

    Cabin



    CANOE TRIP # 2



    Approximately 1:30 by canoe and approximately 2:10 by tube.

    PUT IN:

    Cabin

    TAKE OUT:


    • Go to paved road, take a right
    • Go 0.8 miles to Landmark Church Road
    • Take a right through the church parking lot
    • Go 1.6 miels to stop sign and take a right onto Old Fields Creek road
    • Go 2.4 miles
    • Just past Hwy 16 (Big concrete bridge over road) park vehicles and take out canoes where creek runs into the river (left point of the bridge)



    CANOE TRIP #3



    Approximately 1:20 min.
    • Go to pave rd. take left
    • Go back out like your going back home all the way to big concrete bridge.
    • Cross concrete bridge, pull to the right side of rd. park here
    • Carry boats down grass rd. to the river south side of bridge.
    • Take Out at Cabin

    ***BIKE WARNING***


    • ALWAYS WEAR HELMETS!!
    • Always keep young ones and old ones near the most experienced riders!
    • Take at least (1) one spare tube for every (3) three bikes.
    • Take a pump.
    • Take at least (1) bottle of water for each person.
    • Make SURE that everyone in your group knows that DAMASCUS AT THE OLD TRAIN CABOOSE IS THE STOPPING POINT!!
    • There are STEEP RAVINES along the trail. KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE SMALL KIDS AND THE TRAIL!
    • When passing other bikers, you need to say, "PASSING ON YOUR LEFT." to alert them.
    • Occasionally there are horses present on this trail; not often, but they do use it. When approaching horses, it is best to pull off to the side and let the horses pass to avoid spooking the animals.
    • Purchasing a cheap $2.00 poncho is recommended.




    Virginia Creeper Trail

    • Go to paved road, take a right
    • Go 3.3 miles, take a left onto Silas Creek Road (gravel road with beige and brown house at turn)
    • Continue 1.6 miles to stop sign and take a left
    • Go to next stop sign and take a left onto 194 S
    • Continue 1.9 miles until you see Helton Creek Grocery on the left
    • Take a right on Sturgills Road (towards Hwy 58)
    • Continue 3.4 miles to stop sign and take a left onto Hwy 58W
    • Follow Hwy 58 W for 6 miles to White Top Station
    • Veer left off of Hwy 58 and follow road 1.4 miles to White Top Gap Road
    • Take a right and an immediate left
    • Follow 0.2 miles to the parking lot on the left. This is White Top Station, the starting point of the trail. There is a restroom.
    • At the end of the trail, return shuttle service to White Top Station is available at the locations listed below. They will shuttle you and your bikes back to White Top Station.

    • Our family usually parks @ WhiteTop to get on upper end of trail. Peddle down to Taylors Valley for about an hour and a half and eat homemade hamburgers / hotdogs / ice cream at the little caf� across bridge to the left of trail. Good eats. Restroom there, also.



    Directions to Damascus from White Top Station



    • Stay on Hwy 58W to Damascus
    • Follow Hwy 58W to the Exxon and self-service carwash
    • Take a left here and go 0.5 miles through town and across bridge
    • The NS caboose is on the left with parking


    Supplies to Take



    • Big groups need walkie-talkies
    • Trail maps with start and finish points clearly marked
    • Cheap $2 ponchos
    • Small money for drinks and snacks along the trail
