The face of "moderate" Islam

The recent case of Afghan man Abdul Rahman should send a warning signal to the West that the danger posed by the Islamic religion is not merely confined to extremist elements like the Taleban and Al Qaeda.

Readers may recall that 40-year old Mr. Rahman was charged by the Afghan government of President Hamid Karzai with the heinous crime of ceasing to be a practising Muslim, after he was reported to the authorities by his family. Mr. Rahman had evidently converted to Christianity. Converting from Islam to any other religion is a crime punishable by death in Afghanistan and many other Muslim countries. Although the case against Mr. Rahman ultimately fell down on technicalities (or was more likely dropped due to behind the scenes international pressure), the fact that he was charged in the first place is a worrying wake-up call for the West, and should cause us to reflect on the likely impact on freedom of religion and personal belief posed by the Islamic mind-set.

What is particularly alarming about this case is that this prosecution was brought, not by the previous fundamentalist Taleban government (of whom it might have been expected), but by the so-called "moderate, pro-Western" government installed by the Americans. Clearly, this is the "freedom and democracy" that Mr. Bush is bringing to the Islamic world. How grateful freedom-loving Afghans must be that the nice Mr. Bush has got rid of the mean, nasty Taleban regime and replaced it with a kind, moderate, democratic government that kills people for their religious views.

"Clash of civilizations" ?

Frequent have been the references over the last couple of years to a "clash of civilizations", in connection with the American-led attacks on the Taleban and Baathist regimes in Afghanistan and Iraq respectively.

It is true that a clash of civilizations is occurring. But to suggest, as media commentators are prone to do, that this is a clash between Islam and Christianity is absurd. To suggest that it is a clash between the East and the West is not much better. Whatever Mr. Bush and his motley crew of Big Business tycoons, Freemasons, and Zionists stand for, it is certainly not "the West"; much less is it Christianity.

If I believed for one instant that Mr. Bush was remotely interested in promoting Western civilization, or Western values, then he would have my whole-hearted support. But what George W. and company are really interested in promoting is rampant materialism, crass commercialism, feminism, political correctness, and the phony "democracy" of the moneyed elite. Well-meaning but misguided folks in the West who support Mr. Bush need to ask themselves how exactly we are helping those in the East by exposing them to the "best" "the West" has to offer. Do we hear the Eastern masses crying "Hooray for Mr. Bush! Now we too can have abortion on demand, 50% divorce rates, rampant crime, degenerate television programming, rap music, and McDonalds hamburgers!"? No we don’t!!!!!

Anyone genuinely interested in supporting the cause of the West should start by standing up for REAL Western values.

Common sense is a criminal offence

The rights of parents in New Zealand, and other Western societies, have been under attack from the neo-Marxist onslaught of political correctness for many years now. So much so, that the New Zealand justice system now sees fit to proceed with a criminal conviction against a father who was attempting to stop his vulnerable young daughter from being abused.

I refer to the case in Christchurch of Daryl Falcon, who committed the "offence" of confronting a schoolyard thug who had been bullying his 11-year old daughter and making her life a misery. Mr. Falcon "assaulted" the nasty piece of goods by grabbing his collar and jabbing him with his finger while he told him to stay away from his daughter. This confrontation came after Mr. Falcon had repeatedly tried to get the primary school concerned to deal with the matter – without success.

The fact that the police were alerted is absurd. The fact that he was subsequently charged is an indictment on our "justice system". The fact that was found guilty of "assault" and fined $500 is an outrage.

Victims of real crime will want an explanation as to why the so-called "justice system" is prepared to spend tens of thousands of dollars of tax-payers’ money on this sort of nonsense, while there never seem to be enough resources to even investigate many genuine offences. I myself was a victim of assault some years back, when I was smashed in the face by a stranger in an unprovoked assault while enjoying a quiet drink in a bar with a friend. Staggering outside, I flagged down a passing police car (more good luck than good management!), to be told that they had better things to deal with, and "let’s just leave it, eh?".

The case of Mr. Falcon obviously attracted a higher priority, reinforcing as it does the political establishment’s commitment to politically correct ideals, with the added bonus that the resultant publicity will drive home to parents that they no longer have any right to protect their children.

Sadly, many good, common-sense people who have criticized the legal action against Mr. Falcon have prefaced their letters to the editor, and online blog comments with soppy phrases like "I don’t support what he did, but….". Well, here at the Conservative Rightist, we don’t beat about the bush. This writer, for one, DOES support what Mr. Falcon did, and quite frankly, the world would be a better place if there were more like him. Much was made in the publicity about the case of Mr. Falcon’s "intimidating" physical size. So what???!!! Here we have a decent, working-class Kiwi Dad, with no criminal history, who stands up for his young daughter against a schoolyard bully who is too gutless to pick on someone his own size, so picks on girls instead. In any decent age, this contemptible little runt would have been given a smack around the head, and it might have made him think twice in future. Instead he is now "the victim", who knows that he can pick on anyone he likes now, because the "justice system" will back him up against anyone who tries to stop him. What a wonderful message we send to the rapists and murderers of tomorrow….

Zimbabwe – a (basket) case for the Left

The blighted country of Zimbabwe (formerly the prosperous country of Rhodesia) has been largely out of the news recently, as the international media becomes inured to the excesses of President Mugabe and his henchmen. But what has happened to that country must not be allowed to be forgotten.

Recent satellite photographs released by the Amnesty International human rights organization show the damage done to whole towns and cities by Pres. Mugabe’s wholesale destruction of areas deemed to be support bases for the opposition. Hunger and poverty is now a way of life for virtually the entire population after Mugabe’s thugs completely destroyed the commercial farming sector because the leading farmers were White. The nation’s airline was grounded after fuel supplies were stopped because the government couldn’t pay the bill. Inflation is now running at 1,800% per year!

Interestingly, the Western liberal do-gooding community has now abandoned its support for Mugabe, in the face of incontravertible evidence of his corruption, violencem, and incompetence. But these same liberal leftists draw the line at ever admitting any liability themselves. Yet it was the same people, and their ideological fellow-travellers, who imposed Mugabe on the Zimbabwean people in the first place. The stench of hypocrisy is sickening.

Micro-chipping a human rights issue

Legislation requiring the implanting of microchips into all domesticated and farm dogs has passed with little dissent. That New Zealanders are unconcerned over such an issue is an example of how accustomed we have become to being told what to do by the commissars of political correctness.

Three issues arise. Firstly, the question of whether requiring law-abiding dog-owners to micro-chip their dogs will do anything to reduce dog attacks (the stated aim). The argument in favour of this is as spurious and unconvincing as that for gun control. As with the licensing of guns, all that happens is that decent law-abiding people comply with the law, while anti-social elements do not. Therefore, this is a self-defeating exercize, and utterly pointless, unless of course one supposes that their may be some hidden reason for such a law that we have not been privy to......

Secondly, it raises issues of animal abuse.

But thirdly, and arguably most importantly, it raises the spectre of what may happen in the future. The argument that something may be "the thin end of the wedge" is a much-maligned one, but precisely because it is usually correct. When the wearing of helmets was made compulsory on motorcycles we were told "don’t be silly….it won’t ever apply to pushbikes", but now it does. When smoking was banned in offices we were told "don’t be silly….it won’t ever apply to pubs and RSAs", but now it does. When corporal punishment was banned in schools we were told "don’t be silly….we won’t ever stop parents from smacking their kids", but now legislation to that effect is before Parliament. The list goes on. Is it stretching credibility too far to suggest that we are being softened up for the micro-chipping of humans? I think not. Already micro-chipping is used in humans by some elite country clubs in North America to keep out non-members (strange but true), and by security agencies around the world. Invisible bar-coding of all babies has been raised with increasing frequency.

But many of these measures are with us already. DNA samples are routinely taken from all babies born in New Zealand and many other countries. Look also at the digital photograph database the government now have on us as a result of the new driver-licensing regime. Micro-chipping is merely a logical next step. The time has come to be very afraid.
