An old friend, I said quietly. Frank could you watch Brandon down here. Ill only be gone a few minutes,

 Sure thing, He smiled.

I left Brandon with Frank, who was so enthralled with the control desk that he didnt even notice I was gone. I made my way up to my office and was told again by my secretary that there was someone waiting for me in my office.

What are you doing here? I asked going into my office and closing the door behind me.
Hey Heath. He said putting down the picture hed been looking at. Sorry. I didnt mean to just drop in like this, but I thought maybe we could have that lunch now. And I didnt know your phone number so I. Thats your husband? He asked glancing at the picture hed sat back down.

So you tracked me down at work, I said harshly. You couldnt find my phone number in the phone book, but you can find out where I work in less than 24 hours? You used to be a better liar than that Nick, I said walking over to my desk.

Ok. I know, youre pissed at me, and you have every right to be-

 Damn right I am.

I just said you had every right to be. Im trying to reach out here. If you dont want to see me, thats fine. Just tell me to leave and I will,

I looked up at him. Leave,

You dont mean that, He smiled. I just wanted to talk to you-

We have nothing to talk about. I cant have lunch with you. If you had called I could have told you that, but instead you-

I want to be friends. Is that too much to ask?

Yes it is. I cant be friends with you, Nick. I have a life now and even if we were friends, which were not, I wouldnt have time for you, I said pulling files from my cabinets and tossing them into my briefcase. Im sorry-

 Hows Brandon? He asked quietly.

I stopped and looked at him. Hes fine.

 Hows your husband?

Hes fine too, I said slamming the drawer closed. I dont have time for this. I have places to be-

Can I see him? He interrupted.

You saw him last night. Thats enough,

 Hes my son, Heather-

No hes not. Nick. Hes Jonathans son. You have no claim on him whatsoever. You lost all right to him the day you left.

 Heather-

Mom! Can we go already! Brandon said busting through the door. He stopped and looked at Nick, who in turn looked at him. Hi Brandon, Nick said, his eyes lit up with happiness.

Hi, He said. You know my mom?

I do. Me and your mom are friends, nick said glancing at me before looking back at Brandon.

Well, were going to the beach. Wanna go?

Oh, I dont know. Wed have to ask your mom,

Mom, can mister go with us to the beach? Have you ever been to the beach mister? he asked.

Yes I have, Nick laughed. And you can call me Nick,

 Brandon, Nick was just leaving-

Its okay Heather, I could go for a couple of hours,

 Please mom? Brandon pleaded.

I glared at Nick, who found the whole situation amusing. Sure. But only for a couple of hours,
