BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

This soulful baritone balladeer, first recognized his vocal gift, as a young child. Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, this son of a military father spent the first few years of his life growing up next to a military base in Oberamergau Germany, listening primarily to the music of the late 50s & early 60s that his parents brought with them from the States. At a very young age, he could be found effectively mimicking the vocal stylings of such music greats as The Platters, Brooke Benton, Nat King Cole, Dianna Washington, Nancy Wilson and Otis Redding.  He developed such a love and appreciation for their music, that as he grew up, back in his home town of New Orleans, the Birth Place of Jazz, he gave birth to a soulful & jazzy style of his own, that clearly reflects both the influence of these music legends and his jazz heritage.

As a young adult, he firmly gave his life to the Lord and his musical interest slowly shifted to Gospel music, and his ministry began to take form. He soon  found himself in demand to sing at weddings and local churches in and around New Orleans and  Metro-Atlanta. In 1990, Darrel was offered an opportunity to sing professionally, as a staff vocalist and featured  soloist, with Music South Corporation's (MSC), African American Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorale. Since that time, He has remained on staff and has travelled with the orchestra and chorale. Over the years, he has performed in major venues like the Savannah Civic Center, in Savannah, Georgia, the Realto Theatre, for the Performing Arts, in Atlanta, GA, The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Chapel, on the campus of the Morehouse University, both the A-Train and the main pavillion at  "Underground Atlanta", as well as other smaller engagements in and around  New Orlesns, LA, Metro Atlanta, GA and throughout the Southeastern United States.

Also in 1990, Darrel founded the
Association for Christian Entertainment (A.C.E.) Ministries, Inc. which serves as the umbrella organization for all of his musical undertakings. In 1992, this organization gave rise to a singing group called the Acappella Contemporary Ensemble (ACE) and later a vocal ensemble called Sweet Communion for which Darrel was the lead singer. In 1995, however, God called him out of a prestigious executive level position in Corporate America, to serve Him full-time in the ministry of music as a Gospel Recording Artist. At that time, A.C.E. Ministries established, as its registered trade name and record label, "New Psalm Records & Productions", a Gospel Recording & Publishing Company. This organization is currently seeking funding to underwrite a multimillion dollar construction project to build the NEW PSALM CENTRE for the Recording & Performing Arts.

Darrel Polk, along with his phenominal band,
"THE NEW PSALM (M.A.S.H.) ENSEMBLE" (Musicians Anointed For Spiritual Healing), which he established in 2000, is also working vigorously on a two album project which, with Gods help, he hopes to have released well before the end of the year. On one of the albums in this two album set, the gourp  will feature the original works of his musicians, thereby shining the spotlight on those same "Unsung Heroes" who helped to make so many other people famous over the years. The other album, entitled "Lord I'm Ready!", will feature the original works of Darrel M. Polk, and promises to bless your heart and encourage your soul. (Coming in "2002").
