The abstract of the Outdoor relief lists was produced by the Clerk having been duly entered up by him for the last week ended Saturday the 13 th day of June 1885 whereby it appeared that in that week the total expenditure in outdoor relief was

On the requisition of the Master the following articles were ordered:-

Order No. 28 Turnip seed at 11d

Order No. 31 Matches at 6d

Order No. 35 Sundries at 4/2d

The Master reports that a girl named Catherine Gallagher has applied for a suit of clothes in order to take her discharge and that he requires some glazing done also that he requires two barrels of lime for whitewashing and that the Rev S Johnston has applied to take Eliza nelson out of the workhouse as a servant but she requires a suit of clothes and boots.

He further reports that he requires two buckets for hospital wards and that the mens’ water closet requires seats and tiles also that he requires two days leave of absence, his grandmother being dead, and that he requires a carpenter for one day.

“Minute”

Master granted leave of absence. Matron to take charge during his absence.

Ordered that the Clerk insert a notice in the local papers cautioning the people that all requisitions received under the Representation of the People Act after the 21 st instant will be treated as null and void.

Resolved that the porter Edward Ryan be warned that he will be dismissed if found absent from the house during the absence of the Master.

Ballycroy Dr Smith Health of District fair

Read report from Dr H A Davis Medical officer for Health Newport Dispensary District dated 19 th June 1885 stating that the health of the District is satisfactory and that the sanitary state of Lettermaghera is much improved as the people are beginning to limewash.

Sub sanitary officer J O’Donnell having been called before the board to explain why he had not taken any steps this year to carry out the Sanitary Act in the Electoral Division of Newport West and having given an unsatisfactory explanation the Guardians request they may be permitted to fine John O’Donnell his last quarters salary as sub sanitary officer his having been repeatedly cautioned before.

Resolved that Sub Sanitary Officer Peter Lavelle be authorised to prosecute in certain bad cases in which persons have failed to comply with notices served upon them under the Sanitary Acts.
