Treasurers Book of Receipts and payments was produced by which it appears that there had been received during the week £172 6s 7d
Paid during the week £96 19s 11d
And that the balance on the account against was £33 13s 0d
The following books were exhibited by the Clerk , he having first ascertained the accuracy of the entries made therein by the Master of the Workhouse and authenticated the same by his signature.
By which it appeared that the Cost of provisions and necessities received during the week was £10 0s 0d
Debit Provision Account and Credit Service Account
The cost of provisions and necessaries consumed was £12 11s 10d
Debit Maintenance Account and Credit Provision Account
And the General average cost of an inmate for the week was 2s 5¾d
Average cost in infirmary was 2s 9d
The Master’s estimate of Provisions and necessaries required for the past and ensuing week were examined and orders were duly made for the several articles specified.

The Master reports in reply to Guardians minute of 20 th ult. That any of the inmates of the house are not able to whitewash . He also reports that a man named Pat Kearns has applied for a suit of clothes and boots that he may take his discharge.

Read letter from Local Government Board No 6449 dated 3 rd March 1885 transmitting for the information of the Board of Guardians a copy of a letter which they addressed to the Board of Guardians of Westport Union in reference to the proposed amalgamation of Newport with that of Westport.

Resolved . That the Guardians having read the above letter of the Local Government Board also the copy of the letter which they addressed to the Westport Board of Guardians beg to assure the Local Government Board of the great satisfaction it affords them to learn that they intend amalgamating the Union on the 29 th September next.
Resolved That on the amalgamation of the Newport Union with the Westport Union the Guardians hope that the Local Government Board will favourably consider the question of granting compensation or employment to the officers at present employed in this Workhouse and who will lose their situations by amalgamation they being excluded from any compensation from the Union under the existing laws.
Circular letter from Local Government Board 5653/85 dated 2 nd March 1885 requested to be furnished with a return showing the number of Idiots and Epileptic Idiots in the Workhouse to 31 st December 1884.

Circular letter from Local Government Board No 5.9.82 dated 28 th February 1885 forwarding a copy of an Order revoking their Order dated 24 th July 1884 with reference to importation of Rags from France.

Read letter from Dr Davis , Medical Officer of Health, Newport Dispensary District dated 5 th March 1885 sating that the health of the district continues satisfactory. There are three cases of fever in the house of Lawrence McHale of Cloondaff. They are progressing favourably.
