The abstract of the Outdoor relief lists was produced by the Clerk having been duly entered up by him for the last week ended Saturday the 27 th day of April whereby it appeared that in that week the total expenditure in outdoor relief was

The cases of provisional relief and applications for relief were considered and decided on as set forth in the Application and Report books.

The number of provisional admissions to workhouse confirmed was 2

The number of applicants admitted to the workhouse was 44

The number of cases of provisional outdoor relief was 25

The number of cases in which relief was continued by the Guardians was 14

The number of other applicants in the Relieving Officers Books relieved by order of Guardians was 17

The number of applicants for which relief was not ordered 22

Resolved. That the Board approve of Mr Peter Quinn and Mr Thomas Higgins both of Newport as Securities for R Creeth and Co. for the supplying of Rye Meal for Out Door Relief for the Newport Union for three months.

Satisfactory testimonies relative to the qualifications of Miss Catherine Kelley having been laid before the Board at this meeting.

Resolved That she be appointed schoolmistress of the Newport Union Workhouse at a salary of £8 per annum with apartments and rations.

Ordered That the Clerk cause advertisements to be inserted in the Constitution and Telegraph newspapers stating that the Board of Guardians will on Monday the 15 th day of May next consider tenders from competent persons for the offices of schoolmaster and porter.

The Clerk is directed to write to Mr Coffee the valuator and to call upon him to proceed with the valuation as his appointment is sanctioned by the Commissioners. The Clerk is also directed to lay before the Board at their next meeting the valuators bond completed.

As it appears by the list of Guardians for the year ending 25 th March next that the guardians were elected for the electoral divisions of Achill, Slievemore, Corraun, Achill nad Newport West and it being detrimental to the interests of this Union that these districts should remain misrepresented at this Board.

Resolved. That the Poor Law Commissioners be requested to order a fresh election of Guardians in the stated Divisions.

That owing to circumstances connected with the proposal of Thomas McManmon for distribution of meal in the Newport District which was accepted on Monday 2 nd April 1850.

Resolved that on Monday 13 th day of May next fresh proposals will be received and considered.

Proposals to be handed to the Clerk of the Union by Saturday the 11 th May.

Ordered That the Clerk write to Mr Thom for the following books

1 Admission and discharge book

1 Indoor Relief list

Ordered That the Clerk get printed at Castlebar

100 forms of Relieving Officers Estimate of provisions.

100 forms of Relieving Officers Abstract of paupers.

100 forms of Relieving Officers of persons relieved out of workhouse.

2 Relieving Officers Application and Report books.

Resolved That on Monday the 13 th May the tender of John Hine who offers himself as Porter will be considered.
