The following letters from the poor Law Commissioners and others were read by the Clerk and directions given to answer them respectively to the following effect for orders made on them respectively as follows.
No 7,768 M/50 Date 16 th Feb 1850
Stating that the Commissioners having been required to make a return to an order of the House of Commons calling for return of all contracts containing penal clauses entered into by the Guardians of any Union in Ireland.
The Commissioners request that you will forward to them with the least possible delay the information requested by this Order so far as it relates to the Union of which you are Clerk.
No 120 M/50 Date 19 th Feb 1850
Stating that the Commissioners require to fill up in duplicate in the enclosed forms the required particulars respecting the current rates and any new rates agreed upon in the Union.

Stating that Mr Wilkinson requires to have forwarded to this office by Return the drawings and specifications for the Newport Union workhouse.
No 8180 /50 Date 21 st Feb 1850
Stating that the Commissioners have transmitted herewith a form for a return of Union Officers which form to be filled up and transmitted to this office.
The cases of provisional relief and applications for relief were considered and decided on as set forth in the Application and Report books.
The number of applicants disallowed entry to the workhouse was 4
The number of applicants admitted to the workhouse was 69
The number of cases of provisional outdoor relief was 2
The number of cases in which relief was continued by the Guardians was 2
The number of other applicants in the Relieving Officers Books relieved by order of Guardians was 61
The number of applicants for which relief was not ordered 162
Resolved that the Clerk cause advertisements to be inserted in the Constitution and Telegraph newspapers stating that tenders will be received for the supply of the following articles for the temporary workhouses of this Union.
500 Pair blankets 100 Men’s suits of frieze
500 pairs sheets 200 boys suits of frieze in sizes according to pattern
4500 yards sacking for bed ticks 300 men’s and boys caps in sizes
2000 yards calico for shirting 600 tin platters
1000 yards flannel 600 tin porringers
500 yards linsey woolsey 600 iron spoons
1000 yards Chambrey
Sealed tenders to be lodged with the Clerk on or before Saturday the 9 th day of March 1850 accompanied by samples. Proposals to be considered on Monday the 15 th day of March.
Resolved that the following scale be fixed upon for the salary of the Officers of this Union and that the sanction of the Commissioners be requested thereto in order that the necessary advertisements may be issued on next board day.
Master at a salary of £30 per annum with apartments and ration
Matron at a salary of £15 per annum with apartments and ration
Schoolmaster at a salary of £12 per annum with apartments and ration
Schoolmistress at a salary of £8 per annum with apartments and ration
Porter at a salary of £6 per annum with apartments and ration
Master at a salary of £30 per annum with apartments and ration
Resolved That the relieving officers are hereby required to complete forthwith the Townland books and to keep same filled up from week to week upon pain of being fined for neglect of this duty.
Next meeting of the Guardians to be held on Monday the 4 th day of March 1850.
