The cases of provisional relief and applications for relief were considered and decided on as set forth in the Application and Report books.
The number of applicants admitted to the workhouse was 86
The number of cases of provisional outdoor relief was 21
The number of cases in which relief was continued by the Guardians was 20
The number of other applicants in the Relieving Officers Books relieved by order of Guardians was 55

Resolved. That the following persons form the Finance Committee viz.

Resolved. That the Clerk cause advertisements to be inserted in the general Advertiser, Constitution and Telegraph newspapers stating that the Board of Guardians will be prepared to receive proposals from competent persons for the following workhouse offices in the Union.
Master at a salary of £30 per annum with rations and apartments
Matron at a salary of £15 per annum with rations and apartments
Schoolmaster at a salary of £12 per annum with rations and apartments
Schoolmistress at a salary of £8 per annum with rations and apartments
Porter at a salary of £6 per annum with rations and apartments
Also a medical officer at a salary of £30 per annum. Proposals to be lodged with the Clerk of the Union on or before Saturday the 20 th day of April 1850 and should be accompanied by testimonials as to character and competency and by letters from solvent persons declaring their willingness to leave security as follows.
For the Master two securities in a joint bond of £200.
For the Matron two securities in a joint bond of £100.
For the Schoolmaster two securities in a joint bond of £50.
For the Schoolmistress two securities in a joint bond of £50.
For the Porter two securities in a joint bond of £50.
The applications will be considered at Newport on Monday the 22 nd day of April 1850 and candidates should be in attendance.
Resolved that an advertisement be inserted in the local newspapers calling for proposals from persons desirous of contracting for fitting up the buildings at Seamount and Melcomb for the purpose of auxiliary workhouse accommodation. According to specification which may be seen at the office of the Clerk of the Union at Newport. Tenders to be lodged with the Clerk on or before Saturday the 6 th inst. and they will be considered at the meeting of the Board on Monday the 8 th inst.
As much delay has already occurred owing to the difficulty in obtaining proper specifications (which have now been received) the sanction of the Commissioners is requested to the above correspondence.
Resolved. That the Clerk write to Messrs John and Ebenezer Crawford, The Eagle Foundry, Port Dundas, Glasgow for eight cast metal boilers of 200 gallons each the same description as those to be supplied for the Westport Union, and to be sent by the same vessel.
Resolved. That the Board find it necessary to reprimand Mr Nixon, Relieving Officer for the Electoral Divisions of Achill, Dooega, Slievemore and Curraun Achiil for neglect of duty in not filling the estimate of food required on the date of his last attendance at the Board in consequence of which neglect the supplies of meal for the Out Relief paupers in his district fell short of the amount required for last weeks consumption.
The Board desire that Mr Clarkson as well as Mr Nixon will be more careful in future in performance of their duty in that respect.
Resolved. That the Board will adjourn until Wednesday the 3 rd inst. for the purpose of considering the appointment of valuator in the expectation that before that day a reply to the Clerk’s letter will have been received from Mr Moore.
