The following letters from the Poor Law Commissioners and others were read by the Clerk and directions given to answer them respectively to the following effect or order made on them respectively as follows.
No 78,592/49 Date 21 st Dec 1849
Expressing the Commissioner’s sanction of the salaries proposed to be allowed the Relieving officers and calling for a statement of the Relief districts , showing the area and population of each district.
Resolved That the Relieving Officers of the several districts in the Newport Union are directed to visit once a fortnight the several persons receiving relief in their Districts and that the Guardians hold a revision of the several relief lists once a month at least.
Resolved. That in consequence of several of the guardians being obliged to attend at the Quarter sessions at Castlebar on Monday next that the Board adjourns their next meeting until Thursday the 10 th January 1850.
Ordered. That notices be posted requiring Tenders for the carrying of disabled and infirm paupers from the several relief districts in the Newport Union to the Westport workhouse.
Notice of Motion. Mr McDonnell will propose that in consequence of additional duties being imposed on the Relieving Officers that on Monday the 16 th January 1850 the Resolution No 3 of 10 th Dec 1849 reducing the salaries of the Relieving Officers be reconsidered.
The cases of provisional relief and applications for relief were considered and decided on as set forth in the Application and Report books.
The number of applicants admitted to the workhouse was 39
The number of cases of provisional outdoor relief was 12
The number of cases in which relief was continued by the Guardians was 12
The number of other applicants in the Relieving Officers Books relieved by order of Guardians was 169
The number of applicants for which relief was not ordered 62
Next meeting of Guardians to be held on Thursday 10 th January 1850
