The following letters from the Poor Law Commissioners and others were read by the Clerk and directions given to answer them respectively to the following effect or order made on them respectively as follows.
No 75,801/49 Date 22 nd Dec 1849
Acknowledging the receipt of Queries respecting Mr Dodwell Browne who had been appointed Clerk of the Newport Union and also stating the Commissioners sanction of his appointment at the salary proposed.
The cases of provisional relief and applications for relief were considered and decided on as set forth in the Application and Report books.
The number of applicants admitted to the workhouse was 3
The number of cases of provisional outdoor relief was 2
The number of cases in which relief was continued by the Guardians was 2
The number of other applicants in the Relieving Officers Books relieved by order of Guardians was 17
The number of applicants for which relief was not ordered 61

Resolved . That the different merchants holding bread stuffs be applied to requesting that they may send in samples of the following kinds of meal and tender for supplying the same to the Newport union for the three months from the 10 th January 1850 viz. Barley Meal, Indian Corn Meal and Rye Meal.
The tenders to contain proposals for the supplying with or without distribution. If supplied without distribution the meal to be delivered at Newport and if distributed at Newport , Achill and Ballycroy.
Proposals will also be received for carriage of the meal from Newport and distribution of the same in the several Electoral Divisions.
Tenders to be lodged with the Clerk of the Union on or before ten o’clock on Monday the 7 th January 1850 accompanied by samples of not less than 2 lb. Weight.
Letters will be required from two solvent persons agreeing to become sureties for the due performance of the contract.
The contractor is to deliver the meal at the different localities free of cartage expense.
That as it was not convenient to the board of Guardians of the Westport union to have the revision of the Paupers in the Workhouse from the Newport Union held on the 22 nd Dec 1849 last . Resolved that a revision be held on Saturday 29 th December next and that the Clerk write to the Clerk of the Westport Union informing him of the above resolution.
Ordered that the clerk write to Mr Thom for Contractors Board form.
