Othrek leads the party back into the large cavern. He hides the chest and wipes away the map.

Darius says that Othrek is right. He can not cast charm monster again, and he used his only scroll.

The party returns to the room where they defeated Imaxian. Valkus uses the rest of his healing spells on Pancake and Darius. They set up camp, giving the watch to share between Othrek and Zus who can see in the dark (unless they choose to light a fire).

During the night Zus sees the hobgoblin silently creeping towards the party while keeping his back along the wall of the tunnel.

Nym retrieves his cool to the touch, everburning torch from Darius and lashes it to his chest. He says, "I volunteer to take the next watch with the torch lit. I don't need a full night's sleep, but I cannot see in the complete dark. Obviously the Hobgoblin knows we are here. But if we'd rather forgo the torch, Othrek and Zus, you are welcome to continue the watch." He only needs a half night's rest to get the benefit of sleep as a ranger.

Valkus gives some healing to Othrek and Darius while Zus and Othrek cast their preparatory spells.

Nym arrives at the entrance less than 20 seconds after he casts longstrider on himself. The snowfall lasted all night, and the floor here is covered in two inches of snow. He hears the large thing approaching him in the darkness but can not see it.

Some 30 seconds later Zus comes bounding up next to Nym with Othrek leading the darkness-impaired humans behind him. At the same time, Nym's sharp elven eyes see the creature emerge in the darkness. It is just out of view for Zus, although he can smell its foul stench, and recognizes it as the source of the tunnel's pungent odor. Nym sees the head of a colossal centipede, probably thirty feet long. It appears to have been injured, but all of its wounds have scabbed over. It appears to be angry.

Darius moves into the light and inspires Othrek by reminding him he is destined for greatness.

Roll initiative. The lit area is covered in snow and cuts everyone's speed in half.

The grey areas are shadowy (for humans). The dark areas are pitch black (for humans). Elves can see twice as far as humans. Shadowy area gives 20% miss chance. Nym and Othrek both give off 20 ft of light, plus 20 ft of shadowy light.

From the stench, it may be undead. If so, add +6 damage for favored enemy, +2 for the extra bonus on the bane on my bow and +2d6 Damage per arrow due to the bane as well (so +8,+2d6 extra). If it counts as a giant, I get +2 damage on each attack.

One minute later, Swish and Pancake again try to fight off the effects of the poison.

Valkus heals some of the effects of Pancake's poisoning with a lesser restoration spell. He can fully restore him and Swish tomorrow.

Pancake and Swish need to make Fort Save DC 23 or take 2d6 Dex damage
Valkus restores 4 points of Dex to Pancake.

Poisons always have an immediate effect and an effect 1 minute later. The only time it helps to neutralize poison is during that 1 minute period.

Nym asys, "We've got company." Then he wipes his gaping mouth, says a quick prayer holding his Bless prayer bead, takes a pinch of fluff from his spell component pouch, and makes some deft motions with his damp hand.

Then he aims his bow preparing to attack as soon as the pack gets within range of his bow.

If Nym can take shots outside of that range with a penalty of -4 or less, he will take a full attack at the leader of the pack when he is in the farthest part of that range. I have rolled 3 turns of 3 attacks and 9 damage rolls.

Nym casts Bless on the party, and Cat's Grace and Bear's Endurance on himself.

As they divide the gold amongst themselves, one hobgoblin gives Othrek directions to the village. It is nearby, and would have been just off the edges of the map drawn on the tunnel floor.

"You guys go ahead. Swish is heading back to Longsaddle with us to see if there is a cleric who can fix her." says Zus before flying away. After he and Swish have flown almost out of sight they wheel back and land near Nym. Zus says to Nym, "since you are a friend of Shaundakul and love the ways of air as evidenced by how great a shot you are with your bow and arrows, we will give you the Ring of Djen. It seemed to us that the Calim wanted the party to have it. Keep it safe Nym, or bestow it upon one you trust." He hugs Nym, Othrek and Pancake then flies 5 feet in the air and flips the ring toward Nym and flies away toward Longsaddle.

Right after he flips the ring it pauses in midair and begins to float about. Then the party hears a high pitched male voice sniggering.

He says to the party holding his hand aloft in a gesture of greeting, "Hello. My name is Dewdrop. And... I'm a pixie. I've been sober for" he pauses, "3 seconds." Then he pulls Othrek's pants down. POP. He disappears. The party can hear someone flying around them trying to muffle a snigger.

"Who is this invisible trickster in our midst?" he calls out.

I wish that other fella and his hurt bat were still here, I always enjoyed my conversations with Clumsy Clarence of Unicorn Run. He was a druid. He wasn't really clumsy. I tripped him all the time, so he got that nickname from the other druids. He always laughed at the jokes though. I'm glad to see you have a sense of humor... Othrek, isn't it? I learned all your names while you camped. Perhaps you will let me join with you in your quest to find this devil? I promise to keep things entertaining. And to cast lots of spells."

Othrek is overwhelmed with a sense that this pixie is the most attractive and charismatic creature he has ever come across. "Your jokes and spells would be more than appreciated, my friend," he says. "Please, join us. I am eager to see how such a small yet interesting creature will fare in a battle with a foul beast of another plane."

As Othrek leads the party to the hobgoblin village, he remarks several times at how much better off they are with Dewdrop rather than "that blue druid and his bat."

The hobgoblins fall for Othrek's lie and head off in a different direction. The party comes within sight of the village soon.

The village rests against a small stream and grove of tress. It consists of less than a dozen huts in a ring surrounding one large hall. A campfire burns next to the hall. Hobgoblins, some armored, some carrying babies, some cooking food over small fires outside their huts, go about their business in the village. What looked from the distance like a scarecrow is actually a hobgoblin wearing a tin crown and impaled on a pike on the outskirts of the village.
