The group sits in Malchor Harpell's study.  This long, airy chamber has a high ceiling and generous adornments. A deep blue carpet covers much of the floor. The walls are thoroughly covered by a wide range of paintings, each depicting a different exotic locale or dangerous region. The paintings are rendered with extraordinary skill, and seem almost like windows looking out on remote locations around the world. Several overstuffed chairs sit throughout the room, and at the far end looms a massive antique wooden desk, its surface a tangle of scrolls, books, statuettes, stone tablets, quills, vials of ink, and an expensive dragonchess set, its pieces arrayed in mid-game.

Malchor sits at his desk. He is lean and in good health with gray-streaked hair and a prominent aquiline nose. He wears blue robes. Standing near him, is Agath Harpell, a stern middle-aged man dressed in a black robe covered with stars.

He responds to Othrek's question, "The painting is available whenever you are ready, but don't take too long. The Age of Worms won't wait."

Nym wants to leave to find Zus before he loses concentration and drools again.  So he looks to Othrek and heads for the door.

All this is of course assuming that Zus and Swish are not present.  They could have been with us all this time and just silent, like I assume Darius and Nagaturon could be.  I guess I don't exactly know who is in the room.

The group heads back through the portal into the Ivy Mansion and then exits onto the Long Road.  As they are walking to the inn to gather their stuff and any missing members, they see a bloody man barely holding on to a mule that is trotting into town.  He slumps off of the animal to the street and a crowd forms around him.  The man's clothes and wounds suggest that he has been stabbed repeatedly.

He speaks to the crowd, "You all's be knowing about my cattle disappearing of late.  But neither you's nor I's known the reason until today when what did happen but as I's out tending to my's field I stumbled into a hole what wasn't there last time I's looked.  And what did I find down in that hole but some big brute what picked me up and smashed me head against the wall.  And just when I thought ole' Barngun was done for what did happen but some infernal spiked monster did talk in my's head and in this here brute's head telling 'im to stop.  This here spiked thingy he comes up to me and gets just too close to cut me with his skin and asks me he does had I's seen another like 'im and I says no but he's not like it much and starts a wailin' on me with his brute and then he asks again and i says no and this here time he believes me better.  Says 'is name is Imaxian or whatnot and another like 'im be hidin' nearabouts in like hole name of Lyrisilak and Lyrisilak he has somethin' that Imaxian wants I don't know what.  Tells me he'll let me live what if I's search me ranch and find Lyrisilak but here's I come instead."

Zus stumbles out of the bar levitating about five feet off the ground.  He seems to have trouble walking to the crowd swerving and falling and landing in a mud puddle next to Othrek.  "Oh," gag bleagh bleagh gag -- he thows up.  The throw up s a bilious yellow brown -- he clearly ahd too many beers.  He gags and throws up again: "gag bleagh bleagh gag" -- he thows up again and falls facesideways in the mud and vomit.

Zus starts wallowing in the mud and drunkenly sings off key, "12-0. 12-0. 12-0. No more.  12-0. 12-0. 12-0. No more.  12-0. 12-0. 12-00000000000 no more."  This goes on the the same vein over and over again to the Lone Ranger/Willem Tell tune until he falls face down in the muck.  Swish picks him up and pulls him out of the mud, since everyone else is so busy with the stabbed guy, and dumps him in one of those water troughs beneath the hitching post of the tavern.  He revives a bit and is able to see the crowd and wanders over to the crowd weaving only slightly and on his own two feet.  Swish flies above him.  He sees Othrek and Nym (and any other party members) and says, "Hey!  Where'd you go?"

Othrek carries the man to the nearest doctor to heal his wounds.  Once that is done, he wants to ask the man where his ranch is located.

Nym asks Zus and Nagaturon if they can cast an invisiblity spell and says, "I can move silently pretty well and with the boots of elvenkind, I should be able to sneak down there and check it out without being seen.  I'd rather know what we are facing rather than lure out the same bunch that robbed us.  That wasn't a fair fight."

I have a +10 move silently check +5 more for the boots, so a +15 total.

"We kinda agree Nym.  We gotta keep the devils way down in the hole.  We can see 60 feet in the dark, but the ladder only seems to descend 30 feet.  But Nym, we think we should all descend at the together if possible to stay invisible.  As long as the party is invisible and keeps together and stays silent as mice, the party will be invisible.  We see no reason to seperate.  We'll try to be stealthy and silent way down in the hole.  Swish is already stealthy.  If anyone wants to chat, they should do it before we go way down the hole."

Assuming someone can give him a darkvision spell so that he can see in the hole, he then casts bear's endurance and barkskin on himself.  If not he decides what to do with them if he does not go down into the hole.

Nym does not detect any traps.

They descend the ladder, carefully staying within 10 feet of Darius so that they remain invisible.  At the bottom of the ladder, they find themselves in a massive tunnel, 40 feet high in some places.  It smells foul.

Standing just out of the sunlight is a hulking brute, about 9 feet tall.  It has dark, warty bumps, it wears smelly skins, and its hair is long, unkempt, and greasy.  it carries an enormous greatclub and is looking at the ladder with a puzzled expression.  The ogre hears something and it watches the light of the torch.




Nargatuon and Darius can not cast darkvision

The light from the torch is visible.  However, there is plenty of sunlight illuminating this part of the hole, so as Othrek guessed, it wasn't necessary to light it.  I have shaded the areas where the light becomes shadowy (20% miss chance for the humans). Beyond that is dark (Nym can see 20 feet into this darkness as though it were shadowy illumination.

If you did not light the torch, let me know.

Roll initiative.  Whether you lit the torch or not, the ogre hears something and it might pinpoint your location.  Make move silently checks if you move silently.

On his turn, Othrek steps up to I-8, making a lot of noise as he moves.  He holds the Sword of Teshyllal and the Lightning Sword up high and strikes them together, sending a blast of sonic energy at the ogre.  He becomes visible and smiles.


If someone moves before Othrek and gets in the way of the blast, he will alter where he goes accordingly.

When Othrek unleashes his sonic blast, blood begins to drip from the paralyzed ogre's ears.

Darius speaks eloquently, casting haste on the party.

The ogre strains to break free from the paralyzing spell, but it can not.

The other ogre charges Nym and clobbers him with its club.

Nargatuon tries to paralyze the ogre attacking Nym, but it resists the spell.

Darius casts a spell during which Zus, Swish, and he all become visible.  When Darius finishes, the ogre fighting Nym looks over at him and stops growling.

Darius says in a soothing voice, "Please don't hurt my friends.  In fact, why don't you stop your buddy other there from hurting my friend."

The ogre turns and roars with rage when it sees the other ogre beating Othrek with its club.  It runs over and distracts its partner, helping to defend Othrek.

The ogre looks at Darius, and Darius nods reassuringly.

"Imaxian told my boss that we need a fort while we looked for Lyrsiliak.  He said there was tunnel under the ground and that we should dig hole.  My boss use his magic to make hole and we come down into tunnel.  But then big worm that lives in tunnel walked up to us very angry so we beat it in the face.  It bled and ran away.  Not a lot of blood though.  We just did some scratches because it huge but it knew it would be dead if it did not run away.
