The True Tomb by DM Bill (GM)

With the disc in place, the large column slowly rises and stops 10 feet below the  top.  Once the disc is removed, the party floats up and through the ceiling into a new room.



This chamber is modestly sized but has a very high ceiling: nearly sixty feet high.  The room is lit by elongated metal lanterns that glow with the colors of the rainbow.  A white marble sarcophagus floats in the air at the far end of the room, ten feet off the floor.  The sarcophagus bottom is carved with an image of a sleeping djinni, two swords resting on his chest and a winged helmet at his feet.

The walls are carved to depict a funeral procession in the winds up in a spiral, showing djinni, air elementals, and other races in mourning as they attend the body of a fallen general.  After the first spiral, the upper sections show the general’s ascension into a primal vortex of wind and thunder.  Many-eyed abominations, frog-like humanoids, and tentacled demons are trampled beneath his feet as he rises into a golden doorway at the end of the fresco.

The survey of the room is cut short by yellow bolts of energy that shoot out from the opposite side.  Their source materializes: Eight demons, all identical, filling up the opposite half of the room, each with a hundred eyes covering their heads, necks, shoulders.  They have tiny rolling eyes in their fingertips, and tiny eyes on the soles of their feet squelching and popping as they move.

The bolts that shoot from these creatures' eyes hit Othrek, Zus, and Swish.  Swish is hurt the most.

Swish, Zus, and Othrek are also close enough to be able to look into the eyes of the creatures.  They feel the urge to stop everything, but they try to fight the urge.

The demons vanish.

Darius moves behind Othrek and uses a wand to heal him.

The spells from the past battle all expired while knocking down the door.
Othrek, Zus, and Swish need to make DC 25 Fort saves.  If they fail, they are wracked with pain and fever, taking -2 on attack, damage, saving throws, skill and ability checks.  This is a mind-affecting necromancy effect.

Othrek, Zus, and Swish will also need to make a Fort save DC 18 due to the gaze of the demons.  If they fail they are paralzyed.

Roll initiative.  If you get better than 17, post your action.

The party is standing on solid ground, but somehow have an understanding that as long as one of them holds the disc, they can descend back through the floor at their end of the room.  Of course, they would need to all be standing there.  There are no other exits to the room, and they are not floating.

Both Zus and Swish resist the paralyzing gaze of the demons, but Othrek does not.

The demons appear again.  Yellow bolts of energy shoot from their eyes at Swish, Darius, and Nym.  Nym is hurt the most.

The demons then begin chanting in unison while contorting their eye-covered arms.  There is an explosion of multicolored, crackling energy on the party's end of the room.  It bounces from wall to wall, but, much to the demons' frustration, the energy is harmless to the mostly chaotic party.  Only Swish is hurt by it, but not much.

Nargatuon draws his hood over his head and casts a spell, trying to send the demons back to their home plane.  The demons resist.

Darius uses his wand to cure Othrek a little more.




Swish and Nym need to make fort saves DC 25.  Failure for Nym=sickened (-2 attack, damage, saving throws, skill checks).  Failure for Swish who is already sickened=panicked (cowers in corner)

Zus and Swish need to make Fort saves DC 18 or be paralyzed by the demons gaze in this round.

Othrek thanks Zus for the healing.

Once Swish is better, Othrek leads the party (including Raegar, Pancake and Valkus) out of the tomb (if possible, we will piggyback to use fewer of Nargatuon's fly spells, and perhaps Swish can carry someone else as well).  He greets his followers and regales them with the story of fighting the air elementals.  Darius performs a mime act behind Othrek as he speaks.  After the performance, Othrek asks Darius if he would be interested in writing a five act shadow-puppet play with him.  As the two of them brainstorm, Othrek's followers heal him as much as they can.

That night, Othrek lies awake for a few hours thinking of strategies to use against the many-eyed demons.

He wakes up and asks if anyone has enough knowledge of the demon's home plane to be able to identify this particular breed.  Othrek spends the day scribing as many scrolls of protection from chaos as he is able.

Our best strategy against these guys, to my mind, is to augment our saving throw ability vs. chaotic creatures as much as possible, and prepare as many protective spells as possible (entropic shield, barkskin etc.).  Also we should prepare attack spells that can do damage to multiple creatures at once.  I guess we will also need some fly spells to get back to that room.

I know the cost for making those scrolls should be 25 gp and 2 xp each.  How many can I scribe in one day?

I think Zus or Nargatuon mentioned something about being able to fly with their boots, and one of them may be able to carry us.  And, of couse Swish can carry one or more of us.  Let's try to use their abilites as much."

It seems that the Demons did not want to or could not follow us, so if we picked off one of them at a time in some successive visits, we could probably wear them down by attrition.

After a few seconds, Swish is no longer panicked.  After an hour, no one is sickened.  Darius uses his wand to heal the others.  Othrek receives healing from his followers.

Neither Darius nor Nargatuon knows anything about the planes.  Nargatuon still has 5 scrolls of fly.


It is a new day.

It takes one day per scroll.  Longer if the scroll cosst more than 1,000gp which is not the case here.

Assuming we have not left the cave:  Zus says "We can fly for five minutes 3x a day using our boots or we can ride on Swish.  I doubt any of you will be able to ride her through these caverns unless you are proficient at riding and handling dire bats.  Plus we're not sure she would take kindly to a stanger on her back.  Perhaps Nym could ride Swish -- he seems like he does well with animals.  We don't know what he would do with his wolfdog, though."

Othrek consults with Nagatuon over his spells.  He suggests that the sorcerer prepare plenty of dispel magic (in case someone gets paralyzed again) and also thinks it would be a good idea to use his wand of fireball liberally. He should also cast haste on Nym to help with the elf's archery.

Darius should definitely use his inspire greatness on himself and Othrek.  Inspire courage or any of the other bardic music abilities would be good for the whole party.  He should be ready to use his curing potions and wand.  We will use invisibility sphere to gain the element of surprise on the demons, if we can.

Othrek scribes three scrolls of protection from chaos over the next three days.  He asks Nagatuon to scribe three more fly scrolls, and will pay him back for the cost.  (Zus and Swish do not need to fly, and I can carry Nym).


Othrek's strategy:
Before entering the room
1. Protection from chaos on Othrek, Nym, Nagatuon and Zus
2. Bardic music
3. Haste on Nym
4. Any other minor protection spells from Nym or Zus
5. Invisibility Sphere on the whole party once we start going up.  We should all ready our first actions and wait for the demons to appear, then attack and reveal ourselves.

In the battle
1. concentrate on demons that have already been harmed.  Try to harm many at once
2. If someone gets knocked out, we can use the disc to bring the party back down.  Nym will be in charge of the disc.

Assuming this sounds good to people, let's do this!  Respond with any other suggestions, and write "ready to go" if you are ready to go.  Once Zus and Nym are ready, Othrek leads the party back to the tomb and commences with the strategy.

Zus and Swish return from the emporium (or what's left of it) downcast. "We did not know the albino centaur had been a member of your party and was killed by the evil dragon Ilthane.  Will you tell us his tale?"  He looks at everyone geared up to do some epic ass-kicking and says, "Perhaps on the way to the cairn?  Let us whoop some demon ass!  And he adds, we have purchased a new mwk quarterstaff and gotten rid of our mwk scimitar.  We have prepared many useful attacking, healing, boosting and protection spells.If you did not know we can channel stored spell energy into summoning spells that we haven’t prepared ahead of time. We can lose a prepared spell in order to cast any summon nature’s ally spell of the same level or lower.  Also we are incapable of casting lawful spells.  Our god Shaundakul does not permit it.

In terms of strategy we pretty much agree with Othrek. We would like to cast Stoneskin on him when the time comes if he can help defray some of the material cost of the spell (250gp).  Also remember we can wild shape into pretty much any large medium or small animal 5x per day.  We will ride Swish into battle of course.  We can cast and ride and fight and ride and it will confuse the demons to be attacked from above and below.  In fact if anyone knows of to any potions that explode or other things we could drop on the demons from above without hurting you guys then suggest away, because that could come in handy.  Basically we're fired up and ready to go!  Fired up!  Ready to go!  Fired up! Ready to go!"
  Zus clearly tries to start a chant.

During the first two days, Nym has spent many hours with Sue, scratching her tummy and wrestling, often getting quite bloodied with minor wounds.  On the morning of the third day, Nym and Sue walk out to the edge of town, and Nym comes back alone.

Nym replies to Othrek, "I am ready, but because of the paralyzing stare of those demon's we should make sure we are ready to grab the disk from each other to escape, should we need to regroup."

Sorry for being slow on the draw this week guys, I've been traveling

On the way, Nym suggests everyone that is not Lawful or Good or whatever it was that seemed to effect pancake and valkus take a bath in the ice pool to increase their Charisma.

Before Othrek flies off, Nym casts barkskin (and If I may resist energy) on Othrek Reuses his prayer bead to cast bless on the party.  He also casts Protection from Energy on Darius, and resist energy on himself.  He uses the flame arrow oil on his arrows.  He asks for a haste spell and any other spells coming the way of the party from Nargatuon or Sus as well as a song of courage from Darius before they fly into the room.  All in hopes of minimizing lightning damage and increasing saving throws and abilities for the battle.

Darius casts haste on the party before they start flying through.  Othrek pushes through the wind and dodges most of the lightning bolt.  Nargatuon dodges the lightning and then is blown back by the wind.  He tries again and is again blown back.  He points out that he will die if he gets hit by lightning another time.  He gives up.  Darius waits to see what the others think before he tries.

He then flies out on Swish until he gets to the pillar.  Then he heals himself and or Swish if hurt.

Once everyone is ready he casts Shillelagh on his staff and Stoneskin and Bull's Strength on Othrek.  And will cast cure spells on those who are hurt if asked.

Both Nym and Zus need to make Fort save DC 20 to get past the wind.  You also need to make a Reflex save DC 20 to dodge the lightning each time you try to get through the doors.  If you fail the reflex save, you take 30 points of damage (Nym subtracts 10 from this, Zus subtracts all 30).  If you succeed in your reflex save, you take 15 points of damage (-10 for Nym)

Nym is blown back and struck by lighning on the first attempt taking 20 points of damage, but makes it on the second attempt and dodges the lightning taking only 5 points of damage.  Then he ueses his prayer bead to cast cure serious wounds on himself.

Zus flies across on Swish.  He heals himself wiht a cure light wounds assuming there was no damage from lighning to himself  if not he heals with a higher level heal spell.

Nargatuon uses a scroll to cast fly on Nym.  Darius makes three attempts to fly into the room and is blown back every time.  Othrek flies back and carries Nargatuon and Darius across the threshold.  He is unable to dodge the lightning, but he flies through the wind easily.  Darius also takes the full charge, and his protection spell ends.  Nargatuon partly dodges the bolt.  Darius offers to heal people before telling his inspiring stories.

Darius heals himself and Nargatuon.  He then speaks a few words and cloaks the party in invisibility, although they can see one another.  His haste spell expires.  Darius inspires Othrek with a story, and then begins telling a story to the rest of the party, but then quiets down before they go up.  Nargatuon casts haste on the party again.

The invisible party floats up through the floor.  Once again the room is empty.  Only Zus notices that there are invisible creatures on the opposite side of the room.  However, he does not react fast enough, because the creatures notice the entrance of the group.  As they launch three pale grey beams from their eyes, they appear against the opposite wall. One beam goes to a space where no one stands.  Another beam hits Nargatuon and, despite the memory of Darius's inspiring story, the sorcerer is sickened by fear.  The third beam is aimed at empty air.

Othrek, Nym, and Zus see the creatures' eyes and try to resist their lure.  The demons disappear.



Othrek, Nym, and Zus need to make Fort save DC 18 or be paralyzed.  This is not a fear or charm effect.

Only Zus can act in the surprise round.  However, Nym and Othrek should roll intiative.  If you get higher than 20, post your action (it will happen after Zus, but before the demons act again

As Zus casts the spell he becomes visible.  The demons are too powerful for him, and they resist the effects of the ice storm which continues to pound down on the opposite side of the room.

The demons reappear and act as though there were no storm around them.  They launch three more beams of light.  One directly at Zus.  It hits him.  One aimed at Darius, but it flies past the invisible bard.  The third is aimed at an empty wall.  As the beams of light shoot out, the demons reappear, again gazing into the eyes of Nym, Othrek, and Zus.  The many-eyed demons chant in unison attempting to remove Zus's vision.

Darius moves across the room and uses his wand to heal Nargatuon.  Nargatuon hurls a fireball across the room and manages to overcome the magic resistance of the demons.  However, he does not overcome their immunity to fire.  He becomes visible.

Othrek steps into the ice storm and lets the rocks of ice bounce off his stonekin.  As he swings, he becomes visible.  He strikes the demon, which disappears, revealing itself as a simple mirror image of the true demon.  The hasted Othrek takes a swing at another demon.  It also vanishes when struck.

Zus conjures another ice storm which continues to clatter against the stone floor.

Nym's first two arrows both strike mirror images, causing them to blink out of existence.  His third arrow is dodged by the true demon, but the images shift so fast that no one can keep track of which is real or fake.  His fourth arrow eliminates another image, leaving only 3 demons left.

Only Darius and Swish remain invisible, although Zus is clearly mounted on something.

The demons launch three more eyebeams, striking Nym, Othrek, and Zus.  In unison, the three remaining demons lift their longswords and hack at Othrek.  None of the blows break through Othrek's barkskin.  Neither does their attempt to claw Othrek.

Darius tries to slow the demon down, but it resists.  Nargatuon tries to dismiss the demon to its home plane but he can not overcome its magic resistance.

Nym, Othrek, and Zus need to make Fort save DC 25 vs a mind affecting fear effect.  If Nym and Othrek fail, they are sickened.  If Zus fails he is panicked and tries to escape.

Nym and Othrek must make Fort save DC 18 or be paralyzed by the gaze.

Othrek eliminates another illusion.  With two remaining, Othrek hits the real demon.  His blade is ill-suited and part of the wound heals immediaetly.  As the demons switch back and forth, Othrek manages to hit the real one again.  And again, part of the wound heals quickly.

Zus panics and hides behind Swish in the corner of the room.

Nym is paralyzed by the stares of the demons.

The eyes of the creature release three more grey beams targeted at Zus, Othrek, and Nargatuon.  The beams wound all three.  Nargatuon panics.

Othrek catches a glimpse of the demon's eyes.

The demons vanish.

Darius pulls out a scroll and hums as he reads it aloud, trying to dispel the invisibility effect on the demon.  He fails, and Darius becomes visible.

Nargatuon cowers in the corner, but after a few seconds, his panic wears off.



Zus and Othrek need to makes Fort Save DC 25 vs mind affecting fear effect.  Othrek will be sickened.  Zus will be knocked unconscious.

Othrek needs to make a fort save DC 18 or be paralyzed.

To recognize the location of the demon, you must make a Spot check DC 40, or a Listen check DC 20.

Othrek had asked to cast protection from chaos as one of the preparatory spells.  I had disregarded this among the many other spells, because a chaotic cleric can not cast a lawful spell.  He decided to change the spells to protection from evil.  We'll say that it was cast before the battle.

Since I asked for the sickness roll first, and the paralysis roll second, Nym is paralyzed. (The protection from evil doesn't help his save because he already has a resistance bonus from his cloak).

Othrek shakes off the effects of both the bolts and the gaze.  His dragon-ears perk up and he listens for the demon's squishy footsteps.  At first, he hears nothing.  Then he feels the power of his god, Bahamut, and the footsteps become clear.  He attacks mercilessly.

The squishy sound that Othrek hears comes from the corner.  He hits the demon and  feels that he wounds it.

The demons reappear in front of Othrek.  They launch eyebeams at Othrek, Nargatuon, and Darius.  Nargatuon panics while Darius turns green with sickness.  Darius looks into the eyes of the demon and freezes.

The demon hits Othrek with its longsword.  Othrek feels the unholy nature of the blade.  Its next two blwos miss, as does its attempt to claw Othrek.



Othrek needs to make a Fort save DC 25 or be sickened.

Othrek's first attack hits the real demon.  He swings again at the same spot only to find that the demons have switched.  His blow destroys the final mirror image.  He strikes again and wounds the demon, but some of the wound heals.

The demon unleashes two grey beams from its eyes.  They wound Othrek and Nargatuon.  Nargatuon passes out.

The demon brings 8 mirror images of itself into existence.

Othrek must make a Fort save DC 25 vs mind affecting fear effect or be panicked.
Othrek must make a Fort Save DC 18 or be paralyzed by the gaze.

You have two options for avoiding the gaze:

1)avert your eyes.  This will give a 50% chance each round of not needing to make a saving throw.  You will have a 20% miss chance on any attack

2)close your eyes/wear a blind fold/turn your back.  No saving throw is necessary against the gaze.  Your attack, assuming you figure out where he is, will have a 50% miss chance

Zus empaths to Swish to fly above him and avert her eyes from the demons.   He transfers the healing spells over to her (1 cure crit, 1 cure seri, 2 cure mod, 2 cure light)  and asks her to heal the melee fighters (Othrek, himself) from above when they get injured. Zus then wild shapes into a dire lion, casts the longstrider, barkskin, and greater magic fang on himself and moves with his eyes closed into attack range.  He then opens his eyes but averts his gaze and attacks.

Zus runs across the room without bumping into anything.  A moment later the demons appear.  They launch eyebeams at Zus, Nym, and Darius.  The beam misses Nym, but the others hit Zus and Darius.  Darius panics.

Nargatuon is paralyzed by the gaze of the demons.

The demons swing their longswords at Zus and then claw him, leaving him barely conscious.




Zus can make one attack against the demon when it appears.  If he is not paralyzed by the demon's turn, he can then take a full action.
Zus needs to make a DC 25 Fort save vs a mind affecting fear effect.  Failure= panic.

Othrek, Zus, and Swish must make DC 18 Fort save or be paralyzed

Nym's arrows eliminate two illusions.  Othrek steps up and destroys two more.

The demons shift formation and launch eyebeams at Zus, Nym, and Darius.  They continue to hack at Zus with their longswords and leave him unconscious and dying.

Zus is not paralyzed.  He has the fortitude of a fricking dire lion.  He gets one turn before being knocked unconscious.

Swish, Zus, Othrek, and Nym need to make a Fort save DC 18 or be paralyzed (not a fear effect)
Nym and Zus need to make Fort save DC 25 vs mind affecting fear effect.  Nym would be sickened and Zus would be panicked.

Zus manages to heal himself before the demons cut him down.  He resists the gaze of the demons, but is panicked by the eyebeam.  The enormous lion runs across the room, hugging the wall the entire time.  Swish attacks and becomes visible.

Nym's first arrow sticks into the real demon.  However, the wound heals over so quickly that the arrow pops out and does no damage.  The demons shift and everyone loses track of which is real and fake.  Nym's second arrow eliminates another illusion.

Othrek moves up and blots out an illusion.  He cleaves through it and hits another illusion, leaving one image and the real demon.

The demon's eyebeams strike Swish, Othrek, and Darius.  Darius passes out from fear.

The demon cuts into Othrek with its longsword.  The blade seems to burn Othrek's good soul and wounds him much more than it did Zus.  Othrek's stoneskin absorbs the damage from the blade but not from the unholy nature of the weapon.  The demon claws Othrek but can't break through the stoneskin.

Swish tries to bite the real demon, but it dodges him.  The demon's eyes leave him paralyzed, and, unable to return to his master, the spells he shares with Zus wear off.

Nym's first arrow hits the real demon also, but does not wound it.  His second arrow hits the final illusion, leaving only the oculus demon.

Othrek hits the real demon, but part of the wound heals immediately.

Three of the demon's many eyes launch grey beams at Othrek, Zus, and Nym.  It continues to melee with Othrek, gradually wearing away at his stoneskin, and wounding him with his unholy blade.

Zus's calms down, and Nargatuon breaks the effects of the demon's stare.  Nargatuon tries to dismiss the demon to its home plane but can't break through its spell resistance.

Othrek, Zus and Nym: Fort save DC 25 vs mind affecting fear effect.  Nym would be sickened, Zus would be unconscious, and Othrek would be panicked.

The demon launches eyebeams at Nym, Zus, and Nargatuon.  Nargatuon is overcome with fear and panics.

The multi-eyed creature then flies across the room and strikes Nym.  Nym feels the bite of the unholy blade.

Othrek's panic wears off, and Swish becomes unparalyzed.

Zus is panicked, not unconscious.  My mistake.

Nym and Zus need to make Fort save DC 25 vs fear effect.  Zus would be unconscious, Nym would be sickened.

Everyone needs to make Fort save DC 18 or be paralyzed.

Nym is (I think) sickened but he is not paralized. He tries to step back between Ohtrek and Zus if he won't provoke an attack of opportunity by doing so.  If he can't step back without provoking an attack of opportunity, he would like to draw his sword, but won't if it provokes an attack of opportunity.

Zus sleeps the horrid sleep of those who have just been knocked unconscious by a demon.   Swish is sickened, despite the fact that she continues to avert her eyes from the demon's gaze.  But being the loyal bat she is she throws up and moves up and attacks the demon with her greater magic fangs.  She misses unless the demon is flat footed or all she needs is a touch attack in which case she bites into him.

Othrek's panic wears off quickly.  The demon's eyebeams wound Nym, Othrek, and Swish.

The demon cuts and claws Swish, wounding the bat badly.

Nargatuon comes unparalyzed and pulls out a wand of magic missile.  He launches several glowing projectiles at the creature but does not hurt it.


Nym is not panicked.  He succeeded on his saving throw by rolling equal to the DC.  Take two turns.
Nym, Othrek, and Swish should make a Fort Save DC 25 vs fear effect.  They will be panicked if they get less than 25.  Swish has a 50% chance of avoiding need ing to make the save b/c it is averting its eyes.

Everyone conscious needs to make a Fort save DC 18 vs paralysis.

If rolling equal to the DC is a made saving throw, then Nym is neither sickened nor panicked, as the roll was 25 both times.


On the first move, Nym not being panicked, tries to move behind Zus between him and the wall through his space to get to the panicked othrek and to grab hold of the disc to make the party retreat.

If unable to get there he will try again on the second try, averting his eyes from the demon. But he is sickened by the eye beams of the demon on this round if he has not been able to retreat below yet.

Whenever Zus becomes conscious he starts healing people.  When done he returns to is normal air genasi form and says, "We're exhausted.  Let us rest here and prepare for a better battle tomorrow.  Perhaps more of us could close our eyes until we see the demons or they begin the assault.  We then could avert our eyes.  It doesn't help that everyone is getting sick or panicky.  We will prepare a lot of Bear's endurance for tomorrow to aid our resistance to those eye beams."

I won't be able to cast more spells until tomorrow anyway, so I was speaking of tomorrow about the haste spells.  I have thought about it, and after thinking about my lower level spells, I will prepare summon nature's ally to summon two dire rats that can help us weed out the mirror images, and I will prepare two bear's endurance spells unless someone can cast Bear's Endurance Mass in which case I will can cast barkskin and/or cat's grace.

Before wildshaping, he casts the stoneskins --1 for him and one for Othrek (assuming Othrek has 250 gp for his).  He also cast the two greater magic fangs, one for Swish adding +2 to his bite and one for him but adding +1 to the bite and both claws. He also casts longstrider on himself. Then he casts the 5 Bear's Endurances -- one each for Swish, Narg, Darius, Othrek, and himself.  Finally, he wildshapes into a Dire Lion and roars while sharpening his claws on the stone.

Before anyone has time to react, the oculus demon with his eight mirror images appears across the room.  He unleashes three pale grey beams at Othrek, Zus, and Nym, wounding all of them.

Othrek, who heard the demon against the opposite wall, can not make it through the crowd of illusions.  He destroys one illusion.  The images continue to shift amongst themselves.

Nym's first three arrows hit illusions and they disappear.  His fourth arrow is dodged by the true demon.  Before the demon has a chance to shift, Nym hits him with the fifth arrow.  Most of the damage from the arrow heals immediately.  The mirror images reposition themselves into an X-formation.

Nargatuon attempts to dispel the mirror images but is unsuccessful.

Othrek, Zus, and Nym must make Fort Save DC 25 vs fear effect (from greybeams).  Failure= sickened
Zus, Swish, and Othrek must make a Fort Save DC 18 vs the gaze or be paralyzed.  If you are averting their eyes, you have a 50% chance of not needing to make the save.

Zus and Swish avert their eyes from the demon's gaze.  Zus is now sickened by the disgusting demon but not paralyzed even if unsuccessful in averting his eyes.  Swish is paralyzed unless she was able to avert her eyes.

Swish will fall to the ground if paralyzed, but Zus will use levitate racial special ability on both to break Swish's fall and hover 5 feet in midair along with Swish and throw up because he's now sickened.

If Swish succeeded in averting her eyes, then they both will attack.  Swish will swoop down and bite demon #5, while Zus the dire lion will move up and claw demon #5.  Zus misses and Swish does too.

In either case, Zus howls, "Wroar!" which sounds like the plural form of some lion obscenity.

The dire lion claws at the real demon, without looking at it.  He fails to break through its eye-covered hide.

The demon casts a spell.  Its fear-inducing eyebeams hit Othrek, Swish, and Zus.

Othrek swings through one mirror image and into another, eliminating two in one blow.  He steps up and dissipates another illusion, leaving only the real demon and one mirror image.

Nym's first arrow hits the real demon but does not hurt it.  His second arrow destroys the last mirror image.  His third arrow hits the demon but the damage heals immediately.

Nargatuon pulls out a dart which transforms into an acid-dripping arrow.  It swerves around the dire lion and bat and pierces the demon's skin.  The demon appears to have an innate resistance to acid, and Nargatuon hisses in disgust when it remains unhurt.

Othrek, Swish, and Zus must make Fort Save DC 25 vs fear effect.  Swish and Othrek would be sickened.  Zus would be panicked

Othrek, Swish, and Zus must make Fort Save Dc 18 vs gaze effect or be paralyzed.  Those averting their eyes have the same 50% chance of not needing to save (and 20% miss chance on attack rolls).

Nym is correct that the eyebeam is a fear effect and therefore his save should include the bonus vs fear effects

The demon moves onto the stairs before Othrek has a chance to approach him.  It brushes Othrek's shoulder with a quick touch.  Othrek feels his life drained from him and watches as the demon's wounds heal.  At the same time, the demon launches eyebeams at Nym, Darius, and Nargatuon, hurting them all.

Othrek responds by reopening all the wounds that the demon just healed and opening some new ones.

Nym continues the onslaught by wounding the demon even further.  He now stands close enough to see the demon's eyes and tries to resist its paralyzing gaze.

Nargatuon tries to cast a spell and sneers when the demon resists it.

The demon backs up and reconjures its mirror images. The illusions fan out across the crowded room.

Zus comes unparalyzed.

Nym resists the gaze and the fear in the room, and attacks with fluid speed and precision five more times, perhaps taking an attack of opportunity from one of the demon mirror images.  He attacks demon #8 and #9 first, and then focuses his attacks on the demons nearest the stairs, #'s 3, 4 and 2, hitting all of the mirror images and possibly hitting the real demon if he is not #2, or #9.

Zus attacks demons 6 and 8 with his claws and if they are mirror images they disappear and he moves five feet to B-C/6-5 and bites 7 with his jaws and hits if its a mirror image.  None of the attacks would've hurt the real demon.

Othrek destroys one image and the others shift to fill in the gap he left.  He continues, eliminating each mirror image that shifts in front of him.

Nym clears out the front line of mirror images, then sends an arrow straight into the true oculus demon.  His next arrow also hits the mark, but it doesn't hurt the creature.  His final arrow hits the wall to the side of the demon's shoulder.

Darius, although nauseated with fear, continues to cheer the group on.

The massive Zus is unable to reach the demons in the cramped back of the room without knocking over Othrek.

Nargatuon tries to dispel the final mirror image but again finds his magic weaker than the demon's.

Three eyebeams shoot out from the demon, hitting Othrek, Zus, and Nym, wounding all of them.  After casting a spell, the demon steps onto the stairs, allowing Zus to try to claw him.  It dodges Zus and then touches the dire lion's hide, leaving a gaping wound.  It sucks Zus's life into itself and heals the damage from Nym's arrows plus some older wounds.

Othrek, Zus, and Nym must make a Fort Save DC 25 vs fear effect.  Othrek and Nym would be sickened.  Zus would be panicked.

Othrek, Zus, and Nym should also make a Fort Save DC 18 vs gaze or be paralyzed.  Based on the attack rolls from last round, no one is averting their eyes.

Othrek misses the real demon three times and hits him once.

Nym eliminates the last mirror image.  He hits the real demon with three arrows.

Darius finishes his drinking song, and begins a new speech to inspire greatness in Othrek.  Swish comes unparalyzed.

Nargatuon casts another failed spell.  He expresses disappointment.

Zus claws the demon, but the damage he leaves heals quickly.

The demon's eyebeams hit Swish, Nym, and Nargatuon.  It makes multiple attempts to hit Othrek with its longsword, all failing.  Finaly, it manages to claw him, but Othrek's stoneskin absorbs the damage.




Nym and Swish must make DC 25 Fort Save vs fear effect.  Swish would be panicked.  Nym would be sickened.
Othrek, Swish, Zus, Nym must make Fort Save DC 18 vs gaze or be paralyzed.

Nym resists the demon's icky powers and shoots four more arrows at the creature, trying to pop as many eyeballs as possible, hitting twice (critical?!).



I don't know if this guy is immune to critical hits or not but I just rolled one.  Here's hoping he's not.  As I understand it critical hits are not subject to damage reduction.
