He describes his search of Brokengulf's palace. "I found mostly a lot of obnoxious gossip and empty niceties. At one point, Okoral whispered in Brokengulf's ear, and the two of them went to a backroom. I followed inside and watched Brokengulf pay two others with sacks of gold. One was a halfling and the other an elf in shiny armor. Thier names were Aurian and Moor Munknown. "It's bloody near impossible to keep Madtooth's cage cold. I can't wait until these games are over, and we can return the damn frost salamander to the north." The following day, Zonkel identifies four more items in the morning. Lord Urtos II arrives with four potions of cure moderate wounds. He agrees to sell anything the party wishes. He will follow Nobblywonk's advice to get a good deal. Everyone heals their level (or their HD, Othrek and Zerryn) during the night. You can sell an item for 75% of its value. Zonkel identifies 1) dust of tracelessness 2) two blocks of incense of meditation, 3)Muryland's spoon, and 4) 3 vials of oil of gentle repose. Prepare your spells! When Lord Urtos comes down, Othrek tells him everything the party has discovered since he came, and says: "I think it would be unwise to reveal the conspiracy now, Raegar, because we don't have any actual physical evidence against Brokengulf. He can still outnumber and destroy us if we reveal ourselves to everyone. We need to get our hands on those scrolls. Should we go back down now or after we fight the frost salamander? Ten long minutes pass and the crowd grows increasingly discontent. The faint trace of a smile can be seen on Brokengulf's face as some of Nobblywonk's spells expire. Finally the eastern gates open and a dozen soldiers lead in a massive iron cube on an over-sized chariot. The sides of the cube bear the word Madtooth in bright red letters clenched in the jaws of some huge monster. Brackish water sloshes and leaks from under the cage. The wagon’s progress is slow as the guards drag the iron cage into the center of the arena. As they do, the cage shakes and trembles as some enormous monster within roars incessantly. The spectacle drives the crowd wild, and in moments they’re chanting “MADTOOTH! MADTOOTH! MADTOOTH!” The crowd grows momentarily quiet as Talabir speaks. “And now, the moment you’ve been waiting for! Watch in fear as these brave gladiators pit their skills against the eternal hunger of the worst the swamps of the Shining South have to offer! I give you… MADTOOTH THE HUNGRY!” With this final cry, the guards each tug on their ropes. The walls of the cage unfold and fall away. The monster inside is huge and weird. Vaguely froglike in shape, it has four writhing tentacles in place of front legs. Its head is mostly mouth, and its mouth is mostly teeth. A retractable stalk protrudes from the front of its head, at the end of which stare three bulbous eyes. The massive thing is a dark green save for its belly which is pale. A powerful tongue tipped with barbs lolls wetly from its mouth. The guards run away. After removing a tiny ball of sulfur and bat guano from his pouch, Zonkel squints and launches a pea-sized ball of fire across the field. It erupts into a massive fireball engulfing all of Madtooth. However, Madtooth the Hungry stands in the fire without flinching. The monster is entirely unharmed.

I didn't realize my weight was up, otherwise I'd have a higher AC too. Later, I will move my spell component pouch to the bag of holding, but not after I cast a Long Strider spell. That will bring my weight down and raise my AC to 25. Othrek comes spilling out, his claws and teeth covered in blood and the rest of him in and green and brown digestive juices. His greataxe spills out behind him. He tries to turn the page but is unable to touch them. "There are multiple ways to remove this containment sphere from the scrolls. There are some spells and magic items, all of which are quite powerful: disintegrate, Mordenkainen's disjunction, , a rod of cancellation, a sphere of annihilation, miracle, wish. It can also be destroyed by channeling the power of a god, if the cleric is powerful enough, followed by a simple dispel magic spell. The original reader of the scrolls can release the sphere at anytime. If this happens it gains some new abilities. If the reader is slain before he releases the containment sphere, the ulgurstasta will grow a little weaker every day until it becomes a normal ulgurstasta. At that point, the sphere will disappear." In the middle of the macabre mass, a carving of a horrible skull of Kyuss utters a silent scream of triumph. On the other side of the portal there is another loud bang. The walls shake. The portal can be broken with a Strength check DC 23. Otherwise, you can hack at it, subtracting 5 from each damage roll. There is another loud bang on the other side of the portal. This is followed by a crash, and then the sound of rubble falling to the floor. Shortly afterwards, the party hears the sounds of hundreds of people screaming. Nobblywonk's wall of fire rises up in front of the portal. The last of the green light surrounding the portal disappears. The portal can now be opened normally (a move action). Moving through the wall of fire does 2d6+10 fire damage. If you stand within 10 feet of the western side of the wall you take 2d4 damage. The room on the other side has caved in, leaving a 20 foot wide hole in the ceiling. Othrek can make out the back of the ulgurstasta, a gigantic worm like creature. It has crawled out of the hole into the open air. Somewhere above, there is a crowd screaming in terror. Millions of thin tendrils extrude from the ulgurstasta. They extend all the way down into the room and to the portal. Their frenzied whipping looks both painful and like a major deterrent to any arrows. 
Climbing to the surface requires a Climb check DC 5. You will need to climb 20 feet. You climb at 1/4 your speed. You can climb at 1/2 your speed with a -5 penalty on your climb check. The tendrils extend 40 feet around the ulgurstasta (currently they extend all the way to the F column). They block any nonmagical ranged attacks. The ulgurstasta has made its way towards the exit of the Field of Triumph. It has left behind a trail of skeletons, dressed in the torn clothes of circusfolk. When it sees the group arise to the surface, it turns around and roars, a sound that must fill the entire city of Waterdeep. In the stands, the crowds have formed a bottleneck, trying to escape. Nym in his gaseous state looks for a perch to land on in the stands above the Ulgurstasta where he will be relatively safe, able to climb down eventually with his rope, and able to shoot arrows at the Ulgurstasta when he resolidifies. Nym floats to within 10 feet of the top of the watchtower. Othrek's breath weapon leaves one skeleton as a pile of ashes. The ulgurstasta is caught in the line of Othrek's fire and is badly burned. Zonkel drops a bit of oil in Zerryn's quiver. A hot blue flame sheathes all of Zerryn's arrows. He moves twenty feet. Nobblywonk's vertical column of fire seems to surround the worm without touching it. It putters out after a few seconds. Zerryn trots fifty feet across the field and fires one of his newly ignited arrows. It pierces the ulgurstasta and burns it. The arrow seems to do full damage. Skeletons approach Pancake and Raegar but can not claw through their armor. The ulgurstasta slithers up to Raegar and Othrek, slicing them with its tendrils. Raegar deals a solid blow to the ulgurstasta, but it only takes partial damage. Nym floats to the top of the tower. He sees that it is sturdy and has a staircase leading back down. Four guards are hiding on the floor; they shake in fright. Nym materializes. Othrek, caught in the worm's mouth, claws and bites it but can't get through the creature's hide. Zonkel shrugs when he hears Pancake's request for enchanted arrows. He moves up into the tendrils. He shoots two rays of fire from his fingertips. They both hit, but the ulgurstasta is only burned by one ray. Nobblywonk's second flamestrike seems to wrap around the worm and does not affect it. Zerryn fires a wild shot that lands in the stands. Zerryn trots out of the tendrils. The ulgurstasta swallows Othrek. As Raegar turns his back on the ulgurstasta, it lunges down and manages to crush his entire body in its mouth. Raegar's strong will helps him to survive the massive shock to his system although he listens to his bones shatter in various places in his body. The worm lifts him up in its maw. Up on the watchtower, a guard answers Nym's question about the stairs. "Down to the field. But don't go down there. There's a gigantic grub eating people." A small hole tears open in the worm's belly. Two brass claws reach through the hole and rip it wider. Othrek squeezes out followed by his greataxe. He is covered in a black acid that has patially eaten through his hide. He picks up his axe and steps back five feet. Zonkel fires two more rays of fire. One misses and the other seems to bend around the worm without affecting it. He backs out of the tendrils. Nobblywonk produces a column of fire that burns through the ulgurstasta. Zerryn circles around the ulgurstasta and fires a flaming arrow at it. The arrow hits. The ulgurstasta roars with anger as it takes hits from all sides. It slithers part way across the field and spews forth a stream of black acid splattering over Othrek and Pancake. Raegar goes flying out of its mouth. In addition, nine skeletons are carried from its belly by the dark river plus one wolf skeleton. The bones of the skeletons sizzle with some foul black acid. The wolf skeleton lets forth a chilling howl. The tendrils bite into Zerryn and Othrek. Raegar, Othrek, and Pancake must make Reflex save's DC 18 against the acid breath weapon. If you succeed, you take 5 points of Constitution damage. If you fail, you take 9 points of Constitution damage. Your new Constitution modifier will lower both your current and maximum hit points. (For example, if Raegar's Constituion drops from 19 to 10 (+4 to +0) he will lose 4 hit points per level to both his current and max hit points). Nym fires one arrow that hits the ulgurstasta and another that nicks the bones of a skeleton without hurting it much. The third arrow flies through the skeleton's bones without touching it. Zonkel moves into the tendrils and shoots two rays of fire. One misses, the other burns the ulgurstasta. Continuing to pace around the ulgurstasta, Zerryn lets off another flaming arrow, which misses. The skeletons surround Pancake. One of them gets a lucky shot and scratches him. It leaves some drops of black acid on his neck. The others claw feebly at Zonkel. The ulgurstasta approaches Othrek and snaps at him. After dodging the first bite, Othrek gets caught in the second bite. The worm grabs hold of him with its mouth and picks him up. The tendrils cut into some of the skeletons, Zonkel, and Othrek. As Pancake spins around, destroying skeletons, he notices a few green worms crawl out of Raegar's armor. The worms die once exposed to the fresh air. Zonkel tries to cast a spell but is so worried about the skeletons that he forgets how. He steps out of the tendrils. Zerryn misses with another flaming arrow. A skeleton claws Zonkel leaving a line of black acid across his neck. The color drains out of Zonkel's face as the acid eats away at his skin.
