GILBERT AND SULLIVAN MUSICAL POT-POURRI AT THE BLACK BOX THEATRE ON SATURDAY
JANUARY 19

Gilbert and Sullivan Company of El Paso presents a musical program of
entertaining and tuneful songs on Saturday, January 19 at 2:30 p.m. at the
Black Box Theatre, 430 N Downtown Mall in Las Cruces. The program will
include excerpts from "The Zoo" with a narrative to tie the story together,
plus a Gilbert and Sullivan tribute to "Love in its Many Guises" plus some
sing-a-long songs.

"The Zoo" is a one act comic opera with music by Sullivan and a libretto by
B.C. Stephenson (pen name Bolton Rowe) and was originally performed in 1875
before Gilbert and Sullivan officially began their collaboration. It has
occasionally been staged as a curtain raiser to other Gilbert and Sullivan
short operettas. The plot contains the usual complications. The male lead is
attempting to commit suicide as the play begins. It ends with the lovers
united and the chorus singing "Britons never, never will be slaves."  The
Company will perform "The Zoo" in modern dress rather than in the costumes
of the period.

"Love in its Many Guises" includes songs from "The Mikado," "HMS Pinafore,"
"Ruddigore," "The Sorcerer," "Patience," "Iolanthe," "Cox and Box" and
"Yeoman of the Guard." The Company has performed many of these operettas at
the Black Box Theatre since 2004 and will bring a full production of
"Patience" in August.

Ticket prices are $10.00 regular admission and $9.00 students and seniors
over 65. For information and reservations, call the Black Box Theatre at
