"What is a Beloved Community?"
"Dr. Kings Beloved Community is a global vision, in which all people can share in the wealth of the earth. In the Beloved Community, poverty, hunger and homelessness will not be tolerated because international standards of human decency will not allow it. Racism and all forms of discrimination, bigotry and prejudice will be replaced by an all-inclusive spirit of sisterhood and brotherhood. In the Beloved Community, international disputes will be resolved by peaceful conflict-resolution and reconciliation of adversaries, instead of military power. Love and trust will triumph over fear and hatred. Peace with justice will prevail over war and military conflict.  ~ The King Center
A Beloved Community Is:

1. A Just community, where justice, food, shelter, education, employment, health and hope are fairly distributed and where all people participate in government;

2. A Beautiful community, where art, architecture and landscape spark the imagination and move the Spirit;

3. A Creative community, where open-mindedness and experimentation mobilize the full potential of its human resources and allows a fast response to change;

4. An Ecological community, which minimizes its ecological impact, where landscape and built form are balanced and where buildings and infrastructures are safe and eco-efficient;

5. A community of Easy Contact and Mobility, where information is exchanged both face-to-face and electronically;

6. A Compact and Polycentric community, which protects the countryside, focuses and integrates communities within neighborhoods and maximizes proximity; and,

7. A Diverse community, where a broad range of overlapping cultures and activities creates animation, inspiration and fosters a vital public life.
