Name/Nicknames: Victor O’Connor/O’Connor
Gender: Male
Rank/Position: Veterinarian
Age: 46
Birthplace: Earth—on a farm in Ireland outside Dublin
Physical Description: 5’11” and 165 pounds with a good
physique that he earned chasing after and playing with
his kids, and that he’s managed to keep ever since he
was gifted with grandchildren. He’s got short red hair
that’s turned steadily browner as the years have gone
by and is now beginning to be peppered with silver.
He’s got the same blue eyes that his son’s have,
creased with the line’s of a lifetime of laughing. He
smiles often, dresses comfortably in neutral colors
(and sometimes blues), and has the same claming voice
and accent that the rest of his family does.
Personality: Victor is a man who smiles easily, laughs
frequently, and truly enjoys life. He’s an atypical
Irishman, with no temper to speak of and a strong
disliking for alcoholic beverages. He loves spending
time with his family and is just as happy playing with
his grandchildren, discussing “business” with his
children, of enjoying a quiet evening with his wife
Claire. Victor is a firm supporter of animal rights
and believes that every family should have at least
one pet. He never says or does anything without having
a reason and the members of his family know better
than to argue with him: what he says goes.
Background: Victor is the proud patriarch of Pern’s
“O’Connor” clan, which consists of himself and his
wife, his four sons, a daughter, two daughter in-laws,
one grandson, and one granddaughter. He was born and
raised just outside of Dublin and was taught from an
early age that he was expected to take over the family
business: a veterinarian’s practice. He did so with
great gusto, going off to vet school as quickly as
possible, rushing through his early schooling quicker
than average.
While at school, he met Claire, who was working at his
favorite bakery. They fell in love “instantly” (or so
they say now) and he brought her back to the farm when
he graduated. They lived there happily for a few years
before she got pregnant and they decided it was best
to move into Dublin proper. Garret O’Connor was their
first born, followed quickly a year later by Chase.
Deciding to take a short break, Aidan wasn’t born
until two years later, and two years after that,
Patrick was born, followed quickly a year later by
their one and only daughter: Moira.
Their life was happy and going well when Victor and
Claire got the opportunity to join a group of
colonists heading for a new planet. After doing some
research and asking some questions, Victor decided
that it was a good opportunity for his family. Garret
was 12, Chase 11, Aidan 9, Patrick 7, and Moira 6. All
four boys were thrilled by the prospect, but Moira
needed a great deal of encouragement. This did not
deter Victor, and when the colonists set off for Pern,
his family was among them.
Since arriving on Pern, Victor has focused on learning
all he can about the animal life native to Pern. He
works mainly with dogs, cats, horses, firelizards, and
increasingly dragons as well. Now that the second
group of eggs has hatched, he’s spending more and more
time learning about them.

Hobbies/Skills: He’s a very skilled veterinarian,
father, and “pony.” As for hobbies, he’s only got one
right now: dragons and firelizards.

to Miss a Thing by Aerosmith
Pets:
Brin (green), Winter (blue), Chocolate (brown): all
wild firelizards he got when his family stumbled
across a hatching clutch during a family picnic. Each
of them has a sweet, eager personality when alone.
When together, however, they turn into competitive,
bickering, overly protective little companions. As a
result of this, Victor has encouraged a certain amount
of autonomy in the firelizards: while they are very
obviously his, they are almost as likely to be found
in the company of any of his family members.
Brin and Winter are both pretty stupid, while
Chocolate is slightly above average for a brown. Brin
has a tendency to hide “presents” of various sizes,
shapes, and levels of desirability. Winter, on the
other hand, thoroughly enjoys taking people things
that he thinks they’ve lost. And finally, Chocolate
has the curiosity to go along with his intelligence,
always sticking his nose into places it doesn’t
belong.
