Name/Nicknames: Silas Tucker/"Sy"
Gender: m
Rank/Position: apprentice dolphineer
Age: 18
Birthplace: Earth
Physical Description: 6'0, still lanky with youth, mid-brown hair
cut very short, light brown eyes, pointed almost pixie-ish features,
wiry muscles from swimming but no bulk. Very lithe, great sense of
physicality.
Personality:
Horn-dog! Quite charming, a serial monogamist and dedicated skirt-
chaser. The number of girlfriends he's had is pretty amazing,
considering his age and the limited population of the colony. He's
very active, and very cocky. Rather susceptible to peer pressure.
He's the guy that, when someone mentions doing some dangerous and
stupid and `cool' or `rad' activity, shouts "Yeah! Awesome!", rushes
out and does it immediately with no thought for life or limb. He's
gotten more than one scar this way. The only thing he instinctively
shies from are heights, which he's scared of.
Background: Born and raised in Toronto, Canada, Silas came to Pern
at the age of 8 with his parents and two older brothers. Unlike his
parents and brother Adam, whom he affectionately refers to as `the
geeks', Silas was an active, rambunctious kid with no interest in
such stationary pursuits as computers. The aptitude spectrum put him
closer to his eldest brother Joshua, but a fear of heights kept him
from following Josh's path to piloting. When the children of the
colony got to explore their new home and collect specimens as part
of their schooling, Silas discovered a love for the sea, and quickly
learned to swim under Josh's tutelage. The jump from that to
dolphineering was a short one, and he began his apprenticeship at
age 16.
First Threadfall caught Silas working out at the oceanfront with a
dolphineer at the time, and he had the horrific experience of
watching from shore as the older man, out in the water investigating
the unusual (pre-Threadfall) fish behaviour, fell under the leading
edge of the organism and was injured so extensively he drowned,
despite the efforts of the dolphins to save him. Silas himself
sheltered under an overturned siliplas boat and escaped physical
injury. Mentally, he suffered for a time from acute trauma, but with
the resilience of youth he bounced back and is now working towards
the end of his apprenticeship.
