Physical Description: Sandy has gray eyes and brown hair. Her hair is thin and sort of stringy, and she keeps it short at about mid-leck length. She�s somewhat petite, at 5'2", and looks rather thin, frail and malnurished. Her face is gaunt and her eyes are almost constantly wide, giving her a "deer in headlights" look. Her clothes, the colors of which have dulled and the garments themselves become sort of ragged, hang off her, as if they used to fit her but don�t anymore.

Personality: Sandy is shy and polite, but curious as a kitten. She used to be an adventurous girl, but her trip North squashed that rather quickly. She feels like she�s inadequate most of the time, and her greatest desire is to help the colony, and maybe someday go back North to see if any of the others could be saved. Sandy wants to help in any way she can, but she�s not particularly talented in any of the normal fields of work, and she�s clumsy and awkward with tools and machinery, and she can�t cook. She adores children, but she�s often at a loss of what to do when they�re crying or upset. Because of her lack of talent, Sandy chose to apply to become a candidate for the third artificial clutch of dragons, because after all, she has several fire-dragonets and is adoring of them. If the dragons are anything like the fire-dragonets, then taking care of one is bound to be something she can do. The deaths of her parents and most of her siblings is still a cause of heartache for her, but she is trying her best to move on in life, or at least to not let her mind linger on it too much.

Background: Sandy was born on Earth, but left for Pern when she was only seven, so she doesn�t have any clear memories of her brief life on the planet, before going to Pern. Her parents and elder siblings all worked, to some degree, with animals. Sandy was too young to do anymore than help feed and clean her family�s animals, but she did attach a few fire-dragonets between the ages of ten and twelve, and she simply adored them.

When Thread started falling, her family suffered loss of livestock but were very luck not to lose any human lives. However, Sandy�s parents decided that things would be much better in the caves of the North, and so, when the journey North was made, Sandy and her family went along too.

Sandy�s family quickly fell apart. She lost her parents and new baby sister that first hard winter. Her two green fire-dragonets flew away, much to her disappointment. Of her remaining five siblings, four of them died before the second winter. Her last living sibling, her eldest brother Erik, tried to convince her to leave Cave Hold and go east with him. Sandy didn�t want to travel when there was Thread; she was too scared. So Erik, after making sure she was being watched after by another family, went East without her.

Sandy eagerly joined Belle and Lilly going back South, though. She was sad and upset and lonely and hungry, and she just wanted to get away from Cave Hold. Upon arrival in the South, she was just as surprised as the others to see dragons walking around. And her green fire-dragonets came back! As Sandy had no real talent for any other duty, and with her body weak from the terrible time in the North, she decided that the only way she could make use of herself was to apply as a candidate for the third artificial dragon clutch, while in the meantime studying to make up for lost time, to become a veterinarian. She was off to the interview. She was a little surprised when she was accepted as a candidate, but very, very happy. She could help the colony; make a differnece there. She could!

Family/Friends: Parents - Rob and Lila Avoire, 49 and 46 when died, farmers, deceased

Siblings - Erik (m), 20, herder, gone North and then East

Rachel (f), Braden (m), Sharla (f), Minny (f), Emily (f) - 18, 13, 10, 4, and 2 respectively when died. Rachel had some, but very little, vet training, and the others hadn�t had much or any schooling due to going North.

Hobbies & Skills: Sandy likes to devote her time to her fire-dragonets and, now that she�s at New Landing, to whatever schoolwork she can. She has no real special skills, but she does manage her fire-dragonets and other animals very well.
